revamping my business site

What started with an update of my portfolio has spread to the entire site (lord knows it needs it)

I think I like it, with the possible exception of the main page.

Any opinions/observations?

I've got some graphics optimizing to do and I really haven't proofed the text very thoroughly so if anything jumps out at you, please let me know.

It seems to me that you've got some NS6/mozilla positioning problems going on here - when I go to the sub-pages the box surrounding the content is open at the top, and I don't think you mean to have the page headers over to the left. There's also some text that appears off the edge of the page to the right... will open IE - yeah, looks better there. I don't now about NS 4 but I'd guess that your target audience probably wouldn't be using ns6 anyway.

Overall I quite like the design. I like how you've used pink without it looking too pinky if you know what i mean. One thing you should consider doing is using screenshots of your highlighted sites on your portfolio page - it would really add some spice to the page since the rest of the design is so monochromatic. I do like the way you've used screenshots on the front page - gives the visitor the immediate impression that you've worked on a lot of sites and are therefore very experienced. You should also ad some locational information on the contact page - I just think that's something potential clients may want to know.

Oh joy. NS 4.72 gave me some grief as well but I thought I'd finally nailed it - I'll try a few things based on your description to see if I can fix it. Haven't taken the Netscape 6 plunge here yet.

Confused
Did you delve into the subsections (business, nonprofit)? They are loaded (overloaded?) with screenshots.

Thanks for the feedback Megan. As I mentioned, I was a little uncertain about the main page myself.

I like it!

The eyes down the left are a bit spooky though, not sure on that bit but other than that it's very nice and good to see a different colour being used Smiling

I think those eye on the left should definetly be taken into consideration on if it should stay or go... i felt that the site drew my attention to them and away from the main content... which is never a good thing. Sad

However I do like the way you've displayed the content that works well. Smiling Everything's clear and I think you've presented it very well. Smiling

manic.

Overall, I think it looks very good. I would, however, not center all your text. Flush left is much more business like. Okay, now I see that's only in NS 4.6, alignment *is* left in IE 4.0. Also, the boxes around the text don't show in NS either.

The portfolio-nonprofit page has numerous chunks of "Lorem ipsum" filler text.

The "eyes" are part of the logo on all pages except the home page. Why not?

Arghh! Shades of netscape!

Centered text in 4.6? Overlaps in 6.0? Working (knock on wood) in 4.72!

I may have to scrap the DIV approach and go all nested tables Sad

The eyes, the eyes, the eyes...

My original web logo is what you see on the sub-pages. The eyes have never made it to print (business cards, office forms, etc). I'm thinking that it is time to do away with them altogether.

The sidebar is a carryover from earlier sites and I'm still kind of partial to it. If I lose the eyes in the logo, I'll definitely want to keep the sidebar in some form - maybe I'll fade it a bit.

After all, Internet Concepts Unlimited = I C U Smiling

oh, I'm aware of the "fake latin" but thanks for pointing it out. I'm still fleshing things out and quite frankly, some of those projects are still underway so I won't be launching this for awhile yet.

I like this site a lot, i don't see anything to comment on that hasn't been said already.

But, I personally like the eye logo, i think it's very effective. I do not like the side bar, it makes your design look less professional, I find that a lot of less-interesting site designs use generic bars on the left (i know that one isn't generic but still.) If it looks too boring to you without the background, you might try something with a little less.. erm, flush. Some simple, 1-pixel lines in lighter shades would cut down some of the white space but not take away from the rest of the design.

Just a suggestion

does this work for you?

sitesunseen.com/revised/profile2.html

(just the one page)

It does in 4.72 more or less. I really dislike the slight bevel of the table border though Sad

There's a border around the box and the text is all left aligned in NS 4.6 (Mac). w00t!

I think the site is very original. I especially like the effect you did with the links. Neat-O!

The eyes...well, I liked them at first. Looked unique but then I started starting at them individually....LOL and some of them will give you the creeps. Especially the one dude that is three pics below the owl. He needs to go. Considering the name of your site,(sitesunseen) I think that the eyes are fine.

The color of the links at the bottom of the page and the site address that is below them might look better if they were a little darker or the same color as the table border and headers. But then again it might look uck. Just a thought.

Everything else looks great to me. I love your portfolio.....impressive!!

I think that you site looks good. I just have one comment: the font you used for 'sites' and 'internet concepts unlimited'. It's comic sans right? I just feel that is a very unprofessional font and knocks your site down a few because of it. I would try something different!

That's all!

I was wondering when that was going to come up. Yes, years ago, I chose Comic Sans and Impact as my logo fonts. Bad call on my part. In fact, one of the main motivations for redesigning the site is to get rid of the existing Comic "motif" that had developed as a result of it.

Unfortunately, the logo is a little more complicated. As I mentioned above, it exists beyond the web. It is on business cards, envelopes, letterhead paper, brochures, advertising, etc. - I'm not too eager to tackle the task of reproducing all that right now.

On the other hand, the fact that I'm still here agonizing over it makes me think that perhaps the "unprofessional font" isn't that big an issue.

Perhaps a new logo may be in the future but I'll probably stumble forwards as is for now Smiling

Hi taff, I like your site, its clean simple and the whole concept seems to work. Your site loads pretty quick too (9 secs on my 56k modem). The navigation is intuitive which I like. Overall you have a good site and a very impressive portfolio.

The only gripe I have is that the mouseover images dont work properly in NS 6 (then again it could just be my version as its quite buggy) but apart from that it works well in both NS 6 and IE4+

Keep up the good work.

P.S Those eyes down the left! Cool.

Thanks for all your input and Netscape troubleshooting.

With some new marketing ventures underway, I decided to launch the new site today - it is now top level at:

sitesunseen.com

Hopefully I have got a handle on all the netscape issues(with the exception of sticky's perhaps)

I've decided to stick with the sidebar for now. It is a carryover from the old site anyway so it is not going to shock anyone familiar with it. I'll think about replacing/modifying it down the road.

Have I mentioned what a great forum this is? Smiling
