I redesigned the index-page of my personal site
I added a blog (greymatter) and put contact info in.....
Any suggestions to improve it would be welcome.

The only thing I really don't like about this is the peach you've used for the swirls in the logo header. That definitely needs to be reworked. I can't think of a better alternative off the top of my head but there's got to be something better than peach. I also think that the header is a little on the large side.
Otherwise it looks really good. Lots of interesting cultural info on here!
LOL! Thank you!

yeah..... peach I don't know what ever possessed me to do that. I was just messing around with paint-shop-pro and then I never changed it. Too bad I failed art every year it was compulsory.
Thanks, I'll try and re-work it

Yep, I agree the top doesn't seem to go with the rest of the page with that peachy colour. Plus I'm getting a horizontal scrollbar at 800*600.

You get a scroll? On what browser/OS?

I am looking at ya on IE 6 at 800 X 600. No scroll bar noted here. The peach that you have used at the top doesn't really match but it isn't too bad looking. The rest of the site makes up for the one little boo boo. I enjoyed browsing around at your stuff.
Nice personal site!

Thanks
Japanese-ME IE-5.5 at 800 came out in the clear so I tried it on ENG-98 IE-6.0 and sure enough a little scroll.
Thanks for the heads up. Scroll sucks!

Hey Disaster Master
Thanks for the comments. It's good to know you aren't getting scroll 800x600 IE6 but I am. Clearly, I was cutting it too close when it came to page width. I had hoped the page would end up without scroll when squished into an "antiquated" (hehe) setup. Obviously, I was wrong and I'll try and fix it. But I'm curious.... what OS are you using?
Thanks
Andrew

win98/ie6 here.
I'm getting scroll at "javascript-simulated" 800x600
Ya know, some of those pizzas look pretty good about now - perhaps I should break for lunch!

I Thought it was only Americans that used month/day/year, learn something new everyday
broswers:
IE5 at 800x600 has a slight horziontal scroll bar, looks good
the link "newsblog" under the happenings header could possibly start with a capital
Netscape 4.7 no scroll bar at 800x600, everything lines up good
Opera 6 (new toy ) no scroll bar, but cant get all the images to load, could be me thou
Some pages like the pizza one, the content text is to big compared to the rest of the site.
That top part looks like a waffle, now I'm hungry lol

Hi,
two quick points for you, I think the news section looks out of place compared with the rest of the site. no logo different colour scheme etc..
secondly when I play pacman using I.E 5.5 800x600 it is slightly too large vertically for my screen unless I get rid of my toolbars.
Otherwise excellent site.

Hey thanks for all the input
Currently I have tested my site at 800x600 on netscape 4.7 and 6.2, Opera 5 and 6 (my new toy too), IE 5.5 and 6.0 but I get no scroll here (I had been but I "fixed" it on my end)
Since peach (hehe) and scroll seem to be the issues with this site, and peach is easy to fix, I'm curious what factors beyond screen res and browser affect screen width. From personal experience my Japanese edition ME using IE5.5 definitely displays differently than ENG-98 IE5.5, so I know OS can play a factor. What else can I do to reslove this issue?
Thanks for any ideas/guidance
1) Oh yeah...... that news blog was just a pet project I'm going to scrap it, use the same color scheme as the rest of the site, or get a seperate domain for it. You were right it is out of place. (at least the style was)
2) Pizza text too big; since I have to get root canals and can't go home for xmas, I may have time to rework it!
Thanks Again all of this advice is somewhat "painful" but very very helpful...... just like the old Nick Lowe tune "cruel to be kind (in the right measure)" Thanks!
Andrew

hey Andrew - nice site! - just a couple of suggested edits:
Cycleboy is a look at [delete]the[/delete] some of the strange aspects of modern Japan.
"mix up" is typically hyphenated
btw, I'm "convinced" Nick did his best work as a producer :smokin:

haven't heard it - but we better not "chat" in this thread or someone's liable to be "kind"
