So, my dance class was cancled today (yes, I'm a guy, and I take dance), so I got home from school and said to my self:
"I'm bored, I should make a blog!"

So I did. I registered a blogger account, and customized all the graphics. It's supposed to be wild, and crazy, and weird, but still usable. I figured I'd post it up and see what you guys thought, part for the feedback, part because once I post something in this forum it means I got something done, which makes me feel really good for working on a project since summer that I still don't have complete (I'm on the 3rd design).

Too bright Smiling Doesn't look bad, but it's killing our eyes. Maybe some other nuances Smiling

I reckon it's good! Being different is a pre-requisite for Bloggers, simply because there are so many of them available a user will only stop at a blog they either know or stands-out in some way, and this definately stands-out! Smiling

There are a few things you can do to make this a little easier on the eye:
1. Test the site in 800x600 I get a scrollbar using IE5.5 WIN95 (am at work using an old helpdesk computer so don't laugh! Smiling )
2. You could make the site fit better at lower resolutions by removing the extended borders (orange and green on the left, blue on the right), this would also make the design a little less 'harsh'.
3. Change the background, or leave it white to dampen the brightness of the site overall.

That's all I can think of at the moment, hope these suggestions help! Laughing out loud

Thanks JeevesBond for expanding -- I looked at the site around midnight just before going to sleep, and those bright colors made me almost jump back!

I agree with what you've written!

Ok, I'll adress your comments in order they were posted.

travelagent: I understand it's bright, and I may have to tone it down, just a bit. I think it's ok to have it wild considering I'm young, and this is the kind of stuff that people my age think is cool. It's also not really supposed to be good design, just supposed to be "acceptable."

dojo: I'm guessing I'm going to have to tone it down a bit...and I don't know what a "nuance" is.

Jeeves:
1) I didn't actually do any of the coding, I was too lazy. I just adapted the current template with new graphics/colors, and that's how it was built. Maybe in the future I'll change it. *stifles snigger at Jeeve's crappy computer, then remembers he's on a PII*

2) I may play with the borders, although I'm too lazy to play with the coding for now.

3) I put a very white (a touch of green) layer on top of the stripes to make them a lot lighter.

Hell yeah, that's really getting there. There is a problem with it in Mozilla Firefox (V1), the banner is about 10/15px too wide... Although I have a feeling you might be re-coding the CSS at the moment so went be too rude about it! Smiling

Ahhh -- you're younger than I am ... guess that's why I didn't understand the bright color scheme!

Overall, at least you're trying and experimenting which is a good thing!

*Update*

I played with the borders, and first I got rid of the borders altogether other than the red line, but then I didn't like that. I felt like I was missing my think lines that I always like to have on a page, so I did the current style of borders, with a 5px lime green line on the left, and a 1px red line and 10px orange line on the right.

No I love the colours!
"Dragon" may I ask how you are promoting the site?
What target audience do blogs have and where do you / does one promote them?
PS. i.) You've spelt definitely wrong in I'm Awesome.
ii.) how did you get the thing i'm awesome from blogger?
iii.0 How did you get blogroll?

Each colour is good on its own. Any two of the colours are good too. But all three are confusing me. Smiling

I disagree about good/acceptable design. Even if the colours are apt for your target audience, you'd still want to make it usable. Sometimes it's a tradeoff, but it can work.

I like the layout and most of the design. Have fun with it. Smiling

Nuance ... shade? Something with colours Smiling I'm not that good with English since I'm Romanian so I tend to offer "premade" words. The colours are to bright I said and I would just chose another shade. It's hard to read too much as the eyes would complain Smiling
Anyway. It's nice and the idea and the layout. Smiling

Heebie:

I'm not really promoting the site, I'm just telling friends on MSN (like I do with all my sites, I like to show off).

My target audience is teens my age, and possibly people into webdesign for my posts about that.

for the "I'm Awsome" I just changed the title of the "About" Part. It's in your code (we used the same template) under template. I like to copy that and save it in a txt file so I can play with it.

Blogroll is from http://www.blogrolling.com. You have to have some links before anything will show up. It took me a while to figure the whole thing out.

Abhi: You're right, I should make it work at lower resolutions, and I will...eventually.

What is the third color you're talking about...I guess there's lots of colors on the page.

Quote: What is the third color you're talking about...I guess there's lots of colors on the page.

Mostly referring to the tri-colour header region: the backgrounds behind "orange and green".

To be honest, I can barely keep my eyes on any of the text. The main content area's background is pretty bright... and all those lones and blocks of colour.

But as I said, I only take issue with the colours. Everything else is nice. Smiling

I agree Abishek, it would look a bit more unified if that centre block of colour in the header were removed, also the text on the right is a little hard to read.

The main body text can be read easily - maybe with the exception of the actual words of your essay, they would be easier to read if they were a little larger Laughing out loud

Aside from that the site is looking very good, and improving all the time!!

Ok, I changed the header. I'm afraid that I can't play with my quote text, considering it's a span tag with a style= I already tried because I didn't like some of the formatting.

Hmmm.. I think it was like that when i saw it.. same funcky colors that actually make your site pretty cool.. yet extremly insane for my eyes

After thinking about it for a while, I've thought about changing the name, as oranage and green is rather generic and doesn't really represent anything. I probably won't change anything big, just the title and the header graphic text.. Any suggestions?

What about just "generic"?
or "battery"
or "dragon"
or "ice"
I know they're pretty random, but i think they're cool Wink

Psuedo-Geeks' cool... Are you actually a Pseudo Geek, or a total geek? Laughing out loud

well, both. I can kick it with the other geeks and speak the speak, but I also play football and baseball very well, basketball not so well, and I dance ok. (Does dance classiffy me as a geek?)

Hmmm, no dance would normally classify you as homosexual... Unless you're doing it to try and get women Laughing out loud

All things considered, I would say Psuedo-Geek is a great title, it also means you can talk about dance/baseball etc as well as more techie topics!

Green and Orange... ahhhh kind of reminds me of my second ever website Wink

It is a little on the bright side... why not try toning down some of the colours a bit? Sure keep them green and orange but make them a bit more subtle.
