Portfolio site -need opinions
This site is going to be used in my posrfolio that I will be sending to web design studios. I am hoping to pick up a job at any level in the industry, does not matter if I am making coffee, or sites, just want a foot in.
I want opinions everything (form the perspective of it being a portfolio site) apart from the content of the site. It's targeted at people who will know almost everything about the site before they go there.

Nathan,
I liked the yellow color. I would maybe tone it down just a little becuase it works against the black.
The roll-over idea you have on the first page isn't a bad idea, but a I haven't got a clue as to what the picture is supposed to be of.
In you logo, I would kern the Capital 'T' and the lowercase 'o' together more.

1) What's up with the logo? Is that the actual game logo? If not, then I would really jazz it up a bit.
2) On the sub pages move the page header up between the logo and the menu.
3) The main page really looks empty with just the menu. Maybe add some comments, and intro, or even news to fill it up.
Overall it's pretty good, but I think you need to be a little more creative and do the BEST work you can since this will be in your portfolio.

Good think your visitors will know what this site is about, because I'm rather confused...
I like the menu on the front page - very clever. It didn't register right away that it was a picture of a car. I think that in this case it's an interesting and fun idea to kind of make the users try to figure something out.
Do those buttons have to be there? It's nice that you tried to hide them down there, but I think it would be better with no scrollbars.
I also think that the menu could be a little bigger. YOu could probably assume that your target audience has high speed access, so large images wouldn't be that much of an issue.
As I said, I really like that menu. THe problem is that IMO the logo doesn't seem to be completely compatible with it because it's so plain. Maybe some more interesting effects on the logo would work. On the sub-pages the rectangluar shape doesn't coordinate with the rounded edges on the rest of the buttons.
I think the problem with the sub-pages is that after the interesting colour on the first page, the two tone colour seems boring. Maybe try to add some more colour, or incorporate the front page menu into the sub-pages.
On the "Legend of the Gear" page, the car is facing the wrong was (looks like it's driving off the page). It would be much more effective to either move it to the other side or flip it horiztonally so it looks like it's driving directly towards the viewer. The pictures on the 3 and 4 pages do this well. The one on 2 is a little bit too sketchy.
THe race dates page is not quite right IMO. Maybe the text could start at the edge of the box? Or maybe just some more space between them would work...
Overall I think this is a really well done site. A few minor tweaks here and there would make it even better.

Thank you all for the feedback
Megan Jack may I ask what browser and resolution you use? I did not think I had any scrollbars on the front page.
Thanks.

IE 5 - at 1024 there are no scrollbars but when I resize to roughly 800 there are scrollbars. Those graphics down in the corner definitely need to go.

Oh, I know what may have caused that. I use two pages for the front page, high and low res versions. You would have resized, but you still would have been on the high res page.
Think I will get rid of them anyway though.
Thank you
_Nathan.

Hi,
All I can say is it looks great! You really need some explanatory text next to the logo maybe! If added that I think it would be very nice!
