I must admit, I really do like the menu system.
But I would have to agree with jackchen, maybe you should put a border arround the whole page to the size of about 800, that way it would give it a bit more form.
Alrighty. The blue and yellow is an interesting colour scheme. I like it. The orange isn't quite right though. YOu definitely need to change your vlink colour so it can be read on top of the blue.
WHy in the world is there two pages of empty space at the bottom of the page?
The content area needs to be organized better. All that text is so cramped in there, it makes it hard to read. It would help if you didn't center all of it.
Okay, I went to the "Roman Wall" page (no background on there) and then when I clicked on "Home" I got a new window - that shouldn't happen. It seems that most of the sub-pages are missing the background.
I hope that people with older browsers are able to navigate this page, since that dHTML menu won't work for them.
1) I agree that the site needs a border. Why not add a blue border around the whole site (make the table width 600px), then center the table.
2) I really like the blue and light yellow color, but the orange doesn't help it at all. I would either make it lighter, or search for another light color to go with the site.
3) You need to center the top dHTML logo.
4) There is tons of line breaks after the site is finished.

I'd have to agree with what everyone else has said at this point. One more thing, compress those pics on the wallsend page. I see that I can click on them for the large view but, use thumbnails so that they load faster. 186K is pretty large for a picture that is only 265x201.

Looks better! I think the main problem with this is that I didn't realize right away that those words across the top are the navigaiton menu. Move it below the logo and maybe use a basic font or a mouseover effect to make it look more like a navigation menu. I also think that the logo and nav should appear at the top of the sub-pages rather than at the bottom. On the sub-pages you need a little more cellpadding in those tables and don't center the text! It makes things very hard to read!
Hi,
The site is now back online at http://tsn.worldwide.co.uk/seg - we changed over from NT to Unix servers and the sites was offline for a while. But all is better now
Lose the new window! Bad idea. I hate it when extra windows start poping up on me, especially when I'm already running 3 or 4 (or 5 or 6...) others.
Overall, it doesn't seeem to me that your design reflects your topic/theme. It would be nice if you could include some Roman style elements and colours.
One more thing - definitely space out your text more. It seems to be all crammed in there. Add more padding to your table, and add some paragraph breaks. It's harder to read from a screen than it is from paper, so keep that in mind. Keep your paragraphs short and to the point and use bulleted lists when possible.

The menubar effects are quite nice. But something seems to be missing. Add a border or something?

I believe that this would display a bit better if you:
1) Put some vertical space between the text elements. It looks scrunched together as it is. Your logo runs into the blue nav bar as well.
2) Don't center all the text. Your bulleted list is difficult to recognize as a bulleted list.
3) Center the nav bar elements. Being left aligned doesn't match the rest of the site.
Does your nav scheme work if I don't have Javascript (or have it disabled)? If not, then text links somewhere are in order.
Somehow this site seems to beg for a "wall" texture for a page background, but that may just be the power of suggestion.

It looks very good to me. I really can't find any problems with it. I just don't like all the bright colors see if you can darken it down a bit.

Chris,
Maybe I'm missing something here, but this doesn't look any different than the first time I looked at it?
Is there a different URL for the second edition, or??

All I can say is add some cell padding into the table! If you did that, it would be great!
