I am looking to have my website, PlanetHacker.Com reviewed. I would like comments and suggetions on the packages / prices, the sites functionality and its design.

Thanks in advance

Now, it may be just me - but this smells all over of template. Functionality seems OK, though. If it is a template, you've done a fairly good job of customizing it.

In the navigation menu at the top, "Domain Names" is in a different font. In some cases, this is acceptable for things to stand out, but it has to be either bold, italics etc. This is a completely different font and colour. It stands out, but for unwanted reasons.

You need to sort out your fonts. Apart from the comments mentioned above, Times New Roman can be found scattered around the page (header, nav links at bottom) and therefore decrease the professionalism of the page.

On the site map a link to useful links can be found, although not on the front page.

*looks at forums, stomach turns over**breaths deeply* The forums do not match the rest of the site in the following ways:
-font
-design (by that I mean the borders and so on)

It has been well-implemented into the page but lacks to co-operate with the rest of the site!

I have to admit I don't like the emerging tech news.
-The news should be about your site
-Colours don't match
-People wanting hosting might not want the latest tech news cluttering up an otherwise clean page.

Overall, everything is good, apart from those few nitpicks above. To try and solve the problems, try learning CSS and implementing it into your site.

Hope this helps,

heebie.

Its clunky & its a template. Most people will slate you for not coding your own site, but templates can be used effectivley. The thing about hosting is, were curretnly the best at it so you cannot really compete Shocked so for good value hosting & to see how it should be done with a templateMonster template visit hosting-unlimited.net

Laughing out loud

Seriously, though, I must admit, I do like the colour schemes & I think with a little bit of minor adjustment to some of your fonts for a more consistent theme ( including your forum as said by heebie ) it'll be fine. The news section should be related ( again as said before ) to your company . Random news links I find distracting & you'll find you take visitors off your site , but other than that, a resonable start

There's nothing wrong with using templates *if* you know how to customize them properly. This is quite obviously a template because you've done a poor job with the customization. First of all, make sure that all your fonts match the nice sans serif used in the original design. This goes for the HTML and for the navigation menu. Use a stylesheet to set the fonts in the HTML. That alone would make a huge difference.

I also agree that the tech news section looks really out of place.

it's always a good sign when Megan agrees with what you say Wink

Does look very templateish, and navigation is a little bit jumbled, also the content is very jumbled! The tech news definately looks very out of place.

good site but takes a bit of time to load? why not have your logo as a link home, and put the buttons under the login form and the Emerging Tech News on the right hand side.
i think it would give the site a better feel.
i like the colors

who cares if its a template, most people wont know or care. As long as it looks good and functions well is what is the most important.

I agree with you partially. If it's a template (in this case it is) he should at least have the decency to not ask for reviews for something he hasn;t created. Or at least say: Please review my site, not the layout, since it's a template, but the content and so on."

I have to agree with what others have said about this obviously being a template site. Using a template is not bad, but you have to make it not so obvious that it's a template.

The Domain Names button at the top is absolutely the biggest thing. If you have to change the text on any one button, first make sure that you pick a font that is reasonably close to the original. That one isn't anywhere close. Second, if it doesn't match exactly (and I mean exactly), redo all the buttons with the font you picked, so they'll all match.

From a business standpoint, your tagline, "Demanding Excellence" tells me nothing. I recently read the following on webpagesthatsuck.com, and decided I agreed with it:

Quote: Non-profit organizations are the worst offenders when it comes to names and taglines (and most everything else). Here's a typical non-profit organization's name and tagline:

Big Hands of Hope
-- It's all about compassion

No. It's all about solving your visitors' problems. Nothing in the name or tagline tells you this organization helps African children

Here's an over-the-top example of a name and tagline that's better:

Save the African Children
-- We keep them from dying a horrible death

Yes, the tagline has to be toned down, but at least you understand the mission of the organization. As an aside, I HATE most names for non-profit organizations because, like "Big Hands of Hope", they don't tell you what they do. (I made up this organization and their tagline.)

So there you go.

I personally like when hosting site present the packages horizontally opposite to vertically. It makes it easier to see all the packages for review.
It is just my opinion.

I'm not going to say anything about the template like everyone else. But the input boxes are alinged to the top in my browser and I think you should center them. I use firefox btw.
