I would like feedback on GimmieItNow.com. This is a gift registry website I launched last month. Any suggestions on features, design, usability etc would be appreciated.

Thank you

The colour schemes are good for the type of website it is! I like the logo! Also the layout is clean and navigation was easy, the website was very user friendly!

Hi,

I really liked the site, says straight away what it is and why it is better than the others.
I liked it so much that I tried to sign up - unfortunately when I filled in the form it kept failing to send, and instead emptied the password and confirm password boxes and said I needed to fill them.

Fix the form and you'll have a customer - (I am getting married in October - check gimmieitnow.com for wedding list!).

Thank you for the reviews Randomanweb and Peter.

Peter, first let me say congratulations on the wedding. I hope all goes well for the two of you.

I think the problem was that I had the zip code set to be required and it wasn't supposed to be. The problem should be fixed. Let me know if you still get the error.

I like the look of the site. Very clean and good navigation. I especially like the image of the guy holding the gift! Keep up the good work!

I like the site. Very clean, appealing, and easy to use.

However, I also had problems registering. I had completed all the required fields, and it thought I hadn't. For some reason, I was then still able to sign in. Unfortunately, my birthday didn't get entered. I had to add it at that point.

Also, once you're logged on and you try the "Tell a Friend" screen, I would think the "Your Name" and "Your Email" fields would automatically be filled in.

Anyway, nice site and great idea!

Thank you JJKebab, StraitNoChaser and timjpriebe for the feedback.

That is a good idea about having the name and email address entered automatically on the Tell A Friend page when you're logged in. I hadn't thought about that but it is something I will implement. I will figure out what the registration problem is and fix it as soon as I can.

Nice logo and favison.
The only 'problem' I had with the site was that whenever GimmieItNow was mentioned in the text, it appeared in blue, and the logo had the text in pink, it seemed to clash a bit for me.
Otherwise, well done

Thanks for the feedback. I have changed it to black. Not only did it clash but after reading you comment and looking it over I realized that it was the same color as the links. I always get annoyed by website that make ordinary text look like links so if I want to continue to complain I guess I have to fix my site Laughing out loud

Nice and clean design!
If you put the border around header it will look nice and make the logo lil smaller.

Thank you for reviewing my site. I had originally experimented with borders around the head but decided to drop it. The border just didn't look right. It made the site feel to boxy. I will play with the logo size and see what it looks like.

I actually tried it and found a few issues.

The tell a friend about the list, when I entered an email address, I got a mail subsystem error, because no receipiant address was given.

The second issue I had was I couldn't figure out how to link people to the list I created. Wait, I found the invitation code thing, but when I put it in the box, nothing happens, and when logged out, there is no place to enter the invite code. Well, it adds it to a list, and will create duplicates.

As for the signup I saw 2 issues, one, it asked for my birthdate, then asked how old I was, one or the other is needed, not both. The second is I don't think I should have to give my address, and on top of that, I don't live in the US, so the address form doesn't really work for us Canadians.

Don't get me wrong, and you can ask the rest of these folks, I mostly criticize things, but I like the idea, I'm just pointing out flaws. Smiling

Thank you CptAwsome, the criticisms are the most helpful. To address your comments the tell a friend part was a goof. I thought I had all the error handling set up but it should be a quick fix.

The invitation system has been updated. I originally had it set to only allow you to invite friends after you activated the list. I decided that it was stupid to have people activate a list before they could invite others and now all lists are active when they are created and the invitation button can be used as soon as the list is created. I also fixed the duplicate problem, now it should only be added once no matter how many times you enter the code.

As for the birthday and age. The birthday field isn't required and I don't really care if it gets filled in. I have plans to use the field in the future to add to the functionality of the site but it won't be required. The checkbox is there for new members to confirm that they are at least 13 years old. In the U.S. we have the COPPA (children’s online privacy protection act) which restricts what kind of information can be collected from children under 13 without parental consent. The process for obtaining parental consent in accordance with COPPA is something that I don't have time for or want to be bothered with so I don't allow anyone under 13 to sign up. They can have a parent or guardian create an account for them.

I agree that you shouldn't have to give your address that’s why the field isn't required Wink . Most of the fields are optional.

I was going to look at other international websites and check out what they use for their registration fields. Hopefully I can find something that makes sense to everyone.

Thank you again, your criticisms are always welcome and have been helpful.

I like it. The layout is simple and easy to use. The pink is not my favorite color, but it works here I guess. The only real complaint is that your logo is not clicable. It is now pretty standard that when you click on companys logo it takes you to the home page.
