Please Help, Review my Site!
Everyone,
I just launched my message board search engine on 7-18-01 and I need to know if it is worth my time and energy. I need help before I place this thing out to the real public. Any comments to its function or use would be greatly appreciated. The searchs are not exact but I am still working on this and the other catagories will be up soon. Thanks,
Scott

Something that would make it more user friendly is if you were to make separate pages for your featured Message board (if you have such a thing), and then make the catagory discriptions links to those particular pages (similar to Yahoo).
Other than that, it looks like it may be a good way to find message boards.
The overall site design looks good.

This site is NS 6 compatible - at least as far as I can tell - why do you say it's not?
As for the design I really can't see anything wrong with it. It's not the most exciting to look at but in this case that doesn't really matter. I was going to comment on the logo (at first glance it does look kind of boring), but the simple serif font is reminicent of newsprint which suits your purpose. There is an awful lot of white space at the top though - maybe room for a future banner ad?
Welcome to TWF by the way. I hope you enjoy our community!

Megan Jack,
Yes thank you for your comments. I have been so busy with site submission and other daily upkeeps I haven't fully tested NS 6. If it is working than great and I will change that asap. I was debating if I should sponser this site with banners. I want to see if traffic comes first before I invest in Banner software, but yes that white space at the top will most likely hold an ad. What do you suggest for a logo. I like my logo but I'm open to ideas. How did you like the search? Anyway thanks again. Scott

I think it looks pretty nice. There is a slight horizontal scroll at 800x600.
In NS 4.6 instead of a pop-up alert saying I hadn't selected a topic, I get a javascript error:
JavaScript Error: http://www.boardreader.com/, line 149:
oTopicSelect is not defined.
Also, while there appears to be three categories to select from in NS, they're all blank white.
So I tried a search in NE 4.0. I don't understand what the category "lounge" has to do with cars, but I picked it to find out, then for "keywords" threw in the name of a cat breed and, surprise!, got six results, none of which contained the keywords I entered.
Okay, so I try the make of car I own and get "4,203 matching pages, best matches first." I would like the option to sort by date or to search within the results.
Anyway, it's an interesting concept and I wish you luck with it.

Thanks for the info. I have posted on the site that NS is not running right (located in the Automotive box). I still have a lot to do with NS before it's fully running. As for the search results, sence we are not the orgin of the message we are limited to second hand data. We do not just search the Thread name for the keyword but we also search inside the thread for the key word. Soon I will offer a search fuction that allows you to search only the thread name or the hole thread with post. I am also going to offer a search within a search function. If you entered in a cat's breed name then I'm positive it was named inside the thread. Check this out. Lastly as far as the Lounge is concerned most message boards (automotive message boards) use this title "lounge" as a catagory so that is why I used it. I might change it to "general conversation." Anything else please post comments. Thanks

One thing I noticed (not sure if somebody else mentioned this, I only skimmed through) but I like the ability to click on something. The menu is fine and all but I think it would provide a more fluid feel if I could just click on something and be transported there directly.
Like I decide I want to look up about Fire-Arms, instead of going through the hassel of finding it in the scroll-down menu just click the text; like Yahoo! or whatnot.
