Hello,
I have tried to bring my side business of selling custom computers online. Over the summer I made this website. Prior to this summer I had no knowledge of CSS, javascript, php etc. So I am sure there are a ton of noob mistakes. I would love it if I could get some feedback on the site and what I need to do to make it look nicer and friendlier to use.

Hello, cinfinity! Welcome to TWF and thanks for reviewing some other sites. Smiling

This isn't too bad. You've got a nice layout and things are nicely divided. You've attempted a logo and a navbar. You've got the basics down. A couple of things to work on:

  • Logo. You have one, but it's not great. You might want to consider getting a professional to design one for you. The logo is the most important part of business branding so it's vital that you have a good one. If you don't have a lot of spare $$ to pay someone, you might be able to trade your techie skills for design
  • The navbar is there, but it doesn't really look like a navbar. Style your text differently (add bold and a different colour) so it looks different from plain text. No need to have a drop down there when you only have two items (which both look like they go to the same page!). The top right navbar is good.
  • Back to the left side navbar, you could rearrange the site architecture a bit to remove the pop-out menu. Instead of sorting by gaiming/home etc. then by performance value, then by model type, you could reverse the last two so when someone selects "home", for example, they first see the three models, then from there (under he pictures), can select value/performance. It would also be goo to have a direct comparision of the different models available.
  • Back to the front page - avoid centering things in general. this is a technique that works well in print but not so well on screen. Keep everything left aligned, and float the photo to the right.

That's it. It looks like you've done a great job setting this up. The shopping process seems nice and easy.

Oh, forgot, I'm getting some horizontal scrolling in Opera 7.5 with screen width at about 800 px.

Some of the links on the left navigation are not working.
I think that you should ad a testimonials page, this business is about the trust that you deliver a good computer and testimonials could help to build that trust.

Thanks,
Ian

Thanks again for the suggestions. I have started working on version 2.0 of the website. If someone could just tell me wheather this new layout and look is worth pursuing. Just a quick yey or nay is sufficient. I don't want to spend lot of time upgrading the whole site if the new look is not a step upwards. Mostly I want the site to look more professional.

I like the overall feel of the site

I think customize page is way too long. I would have used dropdown list for the optional items so that I could make it a single view page.

The pages would have looked nicer if it had set 800x600 range size.

No dead links

Nice site
