Photoshop on a web page

Hi

I've been working on this web page for quite a while, and I'd like to get some feedback. It's all my baby, aside from some guidance provided by an archived article showing how to slide one broken image over another with a mouse using DHTML.

The page will be hooked up to the gallery section of the YourVancouver.com website, and possibly licenced off as well. It's not quite finished, but getting very close.

Warning: the page may take close to a minute to come up. The webserver will be replaced within a month or so, giving the visitor a much more responsive page.

Pretty cool. I especially liked the DHTML slide bars.

Takes awhile to load, but not too long. I think people will like it.

That's really neat.

The only room for improvement I see is maybe center it vertically and horizontally on the screen for 1024x728 users, and that's a super minor thing.

The site is a well put together package. I enjoy the look of the banner, very scenic and fitting for the site. My suggestion for the DHTML slide bars is to put spaces after commas as everything looks bunched up. Well done indeed, very little room for improvement.

Really good, mate.
You advertise tourism etc. but there's no map or anything on how to get or where on earth the flipping thing is!
(But there are maps on a link you give: tourismvancouver.com)

I too really like this site. The blue in the banner goes well with the green of the navbar. You still have a distinctive black text on white background for the textual content which makes for effortless, easy on the eye reading. The only minor criticism I have is the vancouver.com text which is superimposed on the "your". I feel it slightly lets the banner down by being a not as instantly clear to look at. I think it is not quite bold enough, maybe darken the "vancouver.com" bit.

But all in all, a great site.

Yeah, excellent. Loading time is in my opinion too long but it's a great layout & excellent use of DHTML. Spot On

Thanks guys!

abudabit: Absolute positioning is used in the code to place DHTML elements, so unfortunately centering is out.

The site has been moved to a much faster server. Now you can include your own text title - naturally with a custom, cool DHTML color-picker. The color-picker isn't fully debugged yet, works on Explorer though.

Keep the suggestions coming! Smiling

Don't have any suggestions, aside from the ones already given.

I'm always impressed by sites with a lot of photos that still load quickly. Smiling

It works wonderfully in Safari!
I haven't seen this done before (at least not to this extent).

Are you going through the GD Library? ...or maybe that's a secret... Wink

Great job on the scripting! I'm looking forward to seeing how you incorporate it into the site.
Have fun with it! Laughing out loud

gotta finish redesigning my sites so I can show them again.

Nah... you're not stupid or dumb.. although I have no idea about you're bum... Wink

The GD Library is something used to create images on the fly. There are other ways to dynamically create images, but this one is pretty widly supported. There's a quick tutorial on it at http://www.phpfreaks.com/tutorials/105/0.php.

Ok, the latest changes are...
- Fonts have been changed to improve readability
- black border around images ot make it look better
- "T" or title color button changed to look more like a button and to give better feedback.
- EXIF data is parsed better, eg: "Canon PowerShot S50. 600x450, 1/1000sec @ F4, 2004:05:09 15:40:41"
- New EXIF button displaying complete details has been added.
- User Titles on the image are now halo'd in black
- JPEG Quality now goes from 50 to 100, instead of 0 to 100
- Sizing/auto-cropping (eg: make a 400x300 image a 5x7" print) now works

Well everything seems to be looking and functioning great here. Laughing out loud
I'm sorry I couldn't help you with your span question, but in my browser there's certainly no problems.

The only suggestion I might make is if you are going to have the url on the top of the fixed picture, you might want to rethink letting the picture title go at the top. Things get a bit messy that way.

I can't wait to see how you integrate this into the rest of the site!
