Online Pharmacy
Hey,
I would like some input on :
http://www.lyricsh.com/peoples/peoples/peoples_pharmacy.htm
The links don't work, that is basically a demo of the layout the site would take on. I have checked it in Netscape and the three main resolutions. Just looking for some feedback. There will be more information then that, also one or two more images running down the right side to take up some exmpty space.
Thanks
Ravi

I do not like the font that you used for your logo. I find it hard to read.
The menubar looks good, and is easy to follow.
I don't like the "tv lines" on the flowers. Maybe try a blur effect or somthing, but the lines make the image look out of place.
THe background colour of "Contacts" and "Help" aren't the exact same as the other colour, but I had to look really closly to determine that.
There is somthing about the font you used for the "Hours" menu. It doesn't seem right to me for some reason.
I like the colouring of your site and overall it looks pretty good. Good job.

Eeww- I don't like it at all...
1) I don't like the color green very much, and it doesn't make the site stand out or anything. You either need to pick another color or add a color.
2) The menu is- dull. First, I think the mneu should be a little wider. Second, you should add bullets next to each link. Third, capitalize "menu." Fourth, the overall design of the menu is boring, and needs to be spiced up.
3) All the graphics are blurry/fuzzy even in true color.
4) You used too many fonts all over the page. Stick to one or two at most.
5) The logo is, well, boring. I would make it bigger, and take up more space. 'Cause right now you have too much grey on your logo menu part.

colors were not my choice, those are the colors of the company.
I will change the logo, I just wanted something there so I would know the proper measurements.
the flowers picture will be replaced with a picture of the store, again I just used that to fill the space for now until I can get the picture.
the menu, I like it so it'll stay.
I will have the change the hours font as that is hard to read too.
Thanks so far
Ravi

Overall, it is a nice site, but the center column, which is where u put the main content, is a little too plain.
Maybe you can introduce some great offers or something.
Regards.

yeah, this site isnt hardly done yet. I just wanted to get through a basic layout that was compatible with most browsers. Hopefully this week I will be able to add alot of the content. It does depend on how much info I actually get from the store though.
Thanks

I still don't like it much. Anyway- check out the designs of sites that "People's Pharmacy" will be competing against:
http://www.drugstore.com/
http://www.cvs.com/
All I've got to say is: I like the design of those two much better...

you're very wrong Justin. The Peoples Pharmacy isnt a large multi-store pharmacy. It's just one store located on the small island of Bermuda (where I live). It's hardly going to be providing services to any other country. Those companies had money to pump into e-commerce. I am not trying to create some big e-commerce website. If that was my intention or the companies they would have gone to an established design company, but there is no point. This site will (at the most) be an outlet for locals and also intended visitors to find out information of what this pharmacy specialises in, as not all pharmacys here carry the same drugs/medications. I think you had a slight misunderstanding.
Thanks!
Ravi

No, I didn't misunderstand, I just wanted to enlighten you and The People's Pharmacy that if they don't sell products online, and don't have a large resource archive, than there is no need for them to have a site. Even if that's ok with you, and you only want locals, you will be getting a lot of potential customers from around the world, and maybe 1% will come from people who live in Bermuda. And even if 1% is ok with you (I should stop saying that), the locals won't even find the site very helpful content wise...
Anyway- that's my opinion...

selling online products to who? This is a Bermuda based company, Bermuda is an island 1,000 miles off of the east coast of the USA. Its only 24 miles long. Who are they going to sell products too? I will say AGAIN, it will be used to provide LOCALS and Potential visitors with information on what this pharmacy specialises in. It wont be competing with drugstore.com / cvs.com. It doesn't even fall into the same catergory. Yes it is useful to have a website for any company. If ever there does come a time when they wish to expand and become more involved with the internet then the option will be totally open to them.
I'm not asking you to decide whether it is suitable for this company to have a website. I'm not asking you how it compares to drugstore.com or cvs.com. I was only asking what people think of the layout. These last post have gone off of that subject, I explained why it doesnt need to be like drugstore.com / cvs.com, can you please except it and direct anymore comments towards the layout.
Thank You
Ravi

no it's not the critiscm, otherwise I wouldnt have posted here. I am trying to explain to Justin that the store isnt meant to be an online store.
He doesnt seem to understand that it isnt meant to be a big "e-commerce" site, and it seems as though he's saying if its not going to be then it doesnt make sense having a site. The site will be meant for locals. It wont be submitted to any big search engines, and will get around only via local advertising.
I want you to critique the layout of the sight, not the function of it.
Thanks
Ravi

Ok, well I've givin' you what I thought you should change (IE: don't really like the menu / should add bullets), but you had already made up your mind about that.
I still don't really understand why they want a site, but who cares. So since it looks like everyone is finished, I'm going to close this topic...

Topic re-opened. This is more an more becoming a forum that I have to frequent to keep things in line.
Justin, this topic didn't need to be closed. I can only see 3 actual reviews here so it shouldn't be closed. The thread isn't hurting anything. RaviJP deserves a review as much as any other site. I am not trying to take over your job Justin, but this thread shouldn't have been closed.
RaviJP, I think the site looks nice. It is a little dull, but a lot of company sites are. They opt for the clean look rather than the "spiced" up look which is usually wise. I understand what People's Pharmacy is trying to sale and quite frankly, I don't think you need to have a site that competes with CVS.

I considered deleting the last few posts but I might as well address a few points...
- Justin: I too see no point in closing this thread. In fact it is essentially TWF policy to leave threads open as rarely is there a case when I do believe members opinions will not be of use.
I'm not sure why this topic got heated but I am sure there was no malicious intent on either end so I suggest we just forget it and get on with the review of this site.
Also, Chad has in no way taken over your 'job', he is just doing his and diffusing any potential arguments.
Come on, TWF is a much nicer place without this type of bickering.

Hey, it's an actual review!!!
It looks pretty nice overall. The design is very appropriate for the topic. It gives an impression of healthiness Plain isn't necessarily a bad thing, and green is a "healthy" colour.
Some mouseovers would be a nice added touch - it's a little too static right now. More activity would definitely suit the healthy theme.
The sunflower picture seems kind of useless to me. I don't know what else you could do here - a photo is needed to spice things up. Maybe in the future you could use a photo of a product highlighted on the site or something.
I'm also not quite sure about the relationship between the menu and the "hours" box on the right. The fonts for these headers should definitely be the same, and the "hours" heading needs a little more padding around it. Maybe the hours part could just go under the menu?

Hi, RaviJP...
It's hard to critique just a layout, but here goes:
1. The links should match the colours of the site (in this case greens).
2. Consider using an accent colour (reddish-orange or orangeish-red) to make it more visually appealing without altering the fast simplicity of the site.
3. You have a lot of shapes going on and it's inconsistent. The hours image, for instance, should have a header like the menu table (or vv) for consistency. And be squared off at the bottom. It should also be text, not an image, or the hours should be in the text somewhere for searching and for text viewers (I don't know the state of equipment you will be dealing with -- ignore this if everyone is on t3 lines with tomorrow's computer system!)
4. Use the actual logo of the Pharmacy if there is one. The one you have doesn't really suit the type of business.
5. You said the flowers are a place holder -- what about making that image (real or placeholder) larger and a background image for the middle text (watermark) or moving it to the top left or top right and fading it into the text area. Right now it looks 'plunked on the page' if you know what I mean (the placement, not the content of the image itself).
Without more content, items like navigation, organization and useability are impossible to critique. It looks clean, it is easy to find the navigation, the contact and help buttons are right at the top, which is a great start.
hth,
Suzanne
