One more time...?
On Monday afternoon, the look of RewardsLookup.com was completely overhauled, and you all should be very happy to see that all the rainbows are gone.
I started anew with the idea of primary colors, but then decided to "soften" the color tones so that I could put text onto them. (With primary blue, it's hard to see black text, and primary yellow, it's hard to see white!) The only thing I don't like about the colors is that they don't seem as "serious" as I'd like, and when I tried to shrink the logo for use as a bullet, it looked like three little balloons. If I'm careful not to *overuse* the colors, I think it'll be all right. Playing a bit more with Adobe ImageReady, I learned about "pillow embossing" and shadowing.
I also gave the nav bar the yellow as a background.
Someone mentioned narrowing the width of the screen, but looking ahead that's not really a useful option. Since the site will be lots of data (if I ever get back to coding!) displayed in tables, like in the Programs Overview page, I think the width has to stay.
Thanks again for all your help. I really liked what I had before, but I like this better. Continue to pick it apart, though, that's how I got this far!

Its better than your last design.
- The top image that says: "shopping online...." looks blurry and its not that noticeable.
- The site looks bland. Maybe you could add a lite background or something.
- The colors just dont seem to go right. Instead of having every other link a different colors just make them one color and maybe align them to the left and add a bullet or something next to them.
Keep up the work though, your site gets better each time you ask for a review.

KLWong- please stop opening up a new thread every day when you have a new design. Just post the details in the old topic. Now let's get to the critique..
1) The top image that says "RewardsLookup" is all blurry. It's also really card to see the ".com" on the end.
2) The logo up in the top left corner is jagged around the edges, and the drop-shadow is cut off around the edges. I would also center this right above the left menu.
3) I agree that all the links on the side menu should be the same color. You also might consider adding a rounded top and bottom to the side bar so it doesn't look like a block stuck on the side of the site.
It's better then the old design though...

Sorry about the new threads...thought that was the way things were done around here...!
I fixed up the chopped edges of the shadow, and shadowed the domain name at the top so the .com would show up and it would match the logo better. I'll work on the menu and other stuff later at home (where I don't have the graphics software...).

Personally I think that this website looks like it should be targeted to children because of the primary colors. You can use bright colors, but maybe not red, blue, and yellow. Or darken them up a bit so it's a marron, navy blue, and deep yellow.

Now the logo that says "RewardsLookup.com" is too small. Make it the same size it was before, or the width of the content part of the site...

Notice I'm *adding on* today...
So yesterday's overhaul wasn't *exactly* the last time. Instead of primary colors (you're right, Brooke, it looked like a children's site), I made a slight change to Red/Green/Blue. Also cleaned up and lined up the graphics better.
The background for the navbar is light gray (echoing the shadows in the graphics), and I don't know how to round the corners which *would* look nice. I plan to come back to that anyway -- gotta leave something to upgrade later to keep the site changing.
After the fact, I also realized that two of the colors were contextually appropriate! The "cash" hexagon is green, and the "miles" one is blue (blue sky = airline miles). "Points" could, of course, be any color...
Any more nits you all want to pick?
P.S. How do I turn on HTML in my posts??

Well, I think it's much better then the design you first came up with...
1) Doesn't look like a children's site anymore.
2) The RewardsLookup.Com text looks good, but the smaller logo in the corner is really weird looking. The edges are very jagged, and I think a lot of image quality was lost.
3) I would move the "Site Map" text up a little bit...

Much better colors!
About the rounded corners. You have to make a circle that is gray on the inside and the outside of the circle is white - cut it into quarters and put it in each corner of the table.

I'm back!
My site is ready for more of a "beta test" than I was asking for before, now that I have my initial design mostly set. (I'll get fancier with rollovers, better menus and such after I get the database content more complete.) I'd appreciate a bit of traffic to help me find problem spots. All constructive criticism is welcome...wording, format, functionality, graphics, etc. I know you all can be brutal -- I mean helpful!
But no complaints about lack of database content, please! That's my current work in progress. I initially started out alphabetically with ClickRewards merchants, then switched and decided to do all the 'A' merchants in *all* programs first, then the 'B's, and so on. That way the program comparison aspect is demonstrated more clearly. Now that I've got the basic site functionality down, I'm working on filling up the database.
Also still on my "to do" list is the "Links" page, and adding paging (20 results at a time) to the Redeem Search page. Also, to facilitate the users' printing of the tables, I'm considering adding a button to open a new window containing the search results table only -- no menus, graphics, or database paging -- from which they can print. Is this a good strategy, or is there another way to do it? As it is, printing from the browser chops off the rightmost side of the page. I'm also planning to add a dropdown box on the two search pages containing Program names to add filtering by program.
BTW, I've really been having a lot of fun putting this whole thing together, and have been learning a *lot* about databases, website programming, internet business, etc., but it's also a lot harder than I thought it would be!

1) Fancy mouse overs? I don't see any.
2) The "cash? miles? point?" logo is still jagged around the edges.
I don't see much difference since the last time...
