Ok it works now! Can someone please give me advise? - http://www.usfaz.com/members/johnny/
Well you should look at some sites, pick a good design, and learn HTML inside-out. Right now your site looks like a newbie site.

Hi there, I have a small collection of sites and am having problems attracting people to them all. So what I did was I made a page called ~Vy~'s Gateway a kind of like main door to all the sites. This kind of failed as it is to be quite honest a boring site. Can anyone have a look at my sites and give me some advise on how I can merge them together. I do not mind Scrapping one if that is required.

I have to admit it does look like a "newbie" site. But that is not to put your site down. My first site looked A LOT worse than yours. Everyone starts off with a beginner's page, and most people slowly progress there web designs skils over a period of time. Read on web design tips, view other pages and try and make a design similiar to theirs. Keep up the good work.

Ok fair enough. I know html Inside out as I have made quite a lot of sites and actually make web pages for companies too. Of course that site might look like a newbie site as it was designed to be simple and graphical. Can you have a look at http://www.mma.net as that is my attempt of a company site. If that looks like a newbie site too I might as well pack up my pc and go home. Did you have a look at my personal page? Did that look like a newbie site too?
Do you thing I should go for more of a corporate layout?

Well all of your sites have this feeling of "fun" sites. What I mean is they were not made to be professional (or maybe they were, but they didnt come out like that). It looks like you do know HTML, but maybe you should read some articles on design and layout.

Ok agreed they are meant to be fun sites as they are not meant to be proffesional (ie made for a company). I tried making it look like a fun site because going to someone's homepage that looks boring makes it un interesting. The mma.net site believe it or not is meant to look proffesional. The comic sans was not my idea as I think It makes it look like a comic book But hey what are bosses for! You are justing getting at me cause I commented earlier on your red background hehehe. What does anyone else think? Do you think my sites look like newbie sites? Could that be the reason I am not getting many visitors?
Thanks!

Not true, I think that constructive critism is good, and that you told me you didnt like the red bg. Anyway, I know what its like when people want a certain font, I'm in the web design business also. But you thing you can do is suggest another font, show them what it looks like, etc... Also, black backgrounds are the first thing to change.

Hey don't get me wrong guys I am not feeling knocked down I am just giving the wrong impression. I do like constructive critisism. Anyway I will try a differant layout and go for a more proffesional look. Ok Ill totally redo the thing and show you a proper layout and design. Hope you will review it again when it's done! I do not agree that black backgrounds are bad though I have seen some really good proffesional looking sites using black as a background theme. Cheers and Ill be back : )

Hey Vy,
Just wanted to tell you that you might want to rethink the password on your personal page for access to your resume. Anyone looking at your code could figure out what your password is. I didn't take the time to figure out the exact number but does w*x*y*z=36 ring a bell? You might want to try Gatekeeper if you want to use javascript. http://junior.apk.net/~jbarta/tutor/keeper/index.html This script does not have the password on the source page.
Also as far as design goes, I like all the colors on your pages. You might try to reduce the size of the images as they take quite a while to download. Try running the graphics through http://www.netmechanic.com/accelerate.htm
Lastly, put a title in your header. I typically have several windows open at once. (Especially when I am reviewing sites) and it is nice to see what window is what in the taskbar.
You might find that you would get more and repeat visitors if you followed these two simple steps.
Hope this helps
ps. Now go to http://www.webmaster-forums.com/cgi-bin/bigtalker/discussion.cgi?forum=11&discussion=265 and critique my site. Thanks in advance

Thanks For the really good advise guys I am going to sort out that password now. Damn and I was so proud of my little keycode too. I will from know on keep an eye on the speed of my graphics. I did try and cut it down before but it looked a bit grainy. I prefer quality to graininess. I put a title on the first pages but I must of forgotten to do it on the others. Good stuff and thanks again.

Well, although I could not get into the original site that you posted about (got an error 500), I did take a look at that company's site that you did, and so i'll comment as that as your biggest work yet.
1) background took forever to download, while it should be the first thing there.
2) did I see a lot of centered text? i think i did... use it sparingly... you'd never see a business letter or magazine article all center spaced.
3) frames: although i originally loved frames, cause it's so damn easy to update yer menu, people (like these here webmasters) convinced me not to use them, and now all the site skeletons that I'm designing don't use frames.
I made pretty cruddy sites too when i started out, and that wasn't very long ago. Then I realized that instead of making radical new designs, I could simply copy other people's pages that looked good, to help get a better grasp on design... so what I did was when I found a site I liked the looks of, I would recreate it using ONLY notepad and IE4/5, WITHOUT copying the code. Then if i got stuck on something, i'd peek at that page's code, then keep working till I had the basic design/layout that they had done... I now have like 10 different website skeletons that i've made that look a lot like other sites... so now when i go to make a site, i look at those to get good ideas, and I have a lot more options available. So next time you see a site that you think looks good, try to make that site over again. worked for me.

Hey kidjustino Got a site comin atya with a black background. I have listened to all you guys advise and have come up with something you might like. I killed the frames, Not centered everything and cut down on loading time on graphics. Ill keep you updated. Please make this site not look like a newbie site.
