Hello:
I'm looking at offering either free web pages or web mail from my site carrying my domain name. Considering my site birminghamnet.com caters to the Birmingham, Alabama area specifically. Which option do you think I'll get the best participation out of [email protected] free web based email or www.birminghamnet.com/city/theirname free web pages?
Also, I'll be paying some big money for the above scripts, so if you know where I can get free ones let me know please.
Thanks in Advance

I would say, if locally, web based e-mail like hotmail. Maybe offer hosting to some selected local businesses in exchange for banner ads, and possibly paid local hosting also.

I think it's great to offer a "free service", hot keyword too. Seems like the mail option would be easier to handle from your end.

I think that you should go with the email. Since most people aren't webmasters. But a lot of people ARE on the web, and may enjoy free email.

well.. both of those fields are really cramped right now. Email is what I'd suggest though, as many of people might happen to be interested in one with a domain related to where they live.

I'm already a homefree owner Ted. Suprised you don't remember me, I'm the guy that raised all the cane about the bugs in homefree, the double header problem still isn't fixed. You guys also deleted some of my post in your support forums because I was either telling potential customers your script had bugs (truth) or because I was using the signature "Disillusioned Homefree Owner". If you can't handle the truth (deleting my forum post) don't sell bugged out scripts.

Well, I'd have to say that free home pages will get more people and more clicks but it takes up more resources then free email, but both are very important features. As for how or where to start with these services, I would recomend HomeFree by solutionscripts ( www.solutionscripts.com/vault/homefree ) and alias-mail ( www.alias-mail.com ) which is also by solution scripts.
I am of course partial to these scripts since I work for the company producing them but I assure you that teh scripts offer tons of features, they are real simple to use and the price is right (well alias-mail is a little more expensive then the others). They are powerful, flexible and a good deal.

Fairhousing, once again, I do not wish to publically argue as it is not the point of a message board. I have sent you a long email on this subject and if it does not change your mind at all then so be it.
I still will stand by HomeFree and although there has been bugs, for a short tiem some very bad bugs, the script is overall one of the most stable scripts out there and every script has problems at times. We never will deny that we have bugs but the extent of the bugs is still something we do not agree on.

I would go with the free email service. I have a free homepage/profile type thing for the visitors to my webpage, it is a lot harder to keep working than my free email service.
There are many places that offer free web based email @yourdomain. I would recommend http://www.bigmailbox.com.
Good luck.

Without a doubt, you should go with the hosting. Offer something to the extent of 25 MB to any sites of any topic that are well done. You can make a lot of money from the advertising in this.
Also, I have a script that does just about everything an FTP program does. E-mail me, and I'd be glad to give it to.
