Hey,

I just finished a new design for my site based on HTML and CSS. I'm now using CSS correctly (more so) and I've got rid of all things like tables etc.
I'm not done the PHP coding so there is little content up right now.
But I'm just wondering what you guys think of everything in the design?

Thanks

It looks ok for the moment, I like the way you used red, it reminds mo of a blogger type site due to the BG... Keep us posted...

The ad in the top, right-hand corner is a little odd, kind of in an weird place...

The banner is a bit bland, but not bad...

I like the navigation, but I noticed not all of the links were on all of the pages...

I think you should make a 'Links' page rather than having the links listed on the home page...

I don't understand why you have a link to your news testing page on there...why not just keep that link to yourself?

I agree about the background, but it's not that bad...

Sorry if those thoughts seem a bit mixed up, but I just typed what I thought of as I went. Sticking out tongue

What would you guys suggest for the background?
The image I have now is pretty a place holder.
Annd for the ad, thats pretty much showing that section right there. More will go there soon. Like a login form. I'm contimplating weather I should just extend the background over the whole top and just place the ad and login ontop of it.
Also as for the links part, that will stay there until I decide what to put there.
Something has to be there, otherwize there will be to much empty space.

Thanks for the replies.

As long as it is not black, i really dislike black as a background color, i don't know why, i always feel more confortable in a site with a white background.

HAHA,
Working on some sites that are of better quality!

Ok first comment is that you really should be using an XHTML 1.0/1.1 DOCTYPE, this is a good thing though as it means you're conforming to standards better and you understand the conceptual reasons behind ditching those tables!

Good work on that, am glad to see semantic markup.

Am not sure about the red header - there's too much of it IMO and it just isn't interesting enough to be that big! I think the red is there to cover up a bad logo, it seems to balance it if you reduce the height of the red does the logo itself stick out?

Oh, so the red thing is just a placeholder? Don't suppose you've got a digital camera? If you ever get the opportunity get one (make sure it's an SLR though IMO), plenty of geek hours taking photos and you know that everything on your site is your own.

Failing the taking your own photo option, you could use a nice stock image (careful though, some of us can smell stock photos from a mile away!). Try: http://photography.deviantart.com/ or http://www.sxc.hu/ There're probably more, they're just the main ones I use.

Let us know how you get on. The site will look completely different with something different in place of that red thing Smiling

Yeah the red logo at the top is really just a place holder till I can get something better. I'm really not to good a Photoshop.

Another site with a bloody ebay ad. The next one i see i am slitting my wrists.

I actually quite like it, not terribly exciting but does the job. I would have text links at the bottom as the mouse over buttons are quite faint and would be potentially confusing for a partially sighted user.

Don't worry the ebay ad from top is gone now...
What if I outline the text in black in the tabs? You think that would make it more visible?

Edit: I also replaced the logo with a stock photo. I have no SLR.

It's not bad, but I feel you need more work on your logo.

I can't see the header Image or not even a header text. First of all i would suggest you to write some good content in your site.
