Ok I have given up to Megan and all you people and thrown the JAva Menu out the window. Since I liked it so much though I recreated it by using tables. Since I don't have fireworks I did it manually. I fixed the text in the middle so it was not clipping the edge and I am slowly adding some content to it. I have added Everyone.net as you guys suggested and am now happy with this template!

Question is what do you guys think?

1) I'm very glad you got rid of the Java menu. And the menu you came up with just graphics and text I think looks better then the original Java one. Nice!

2) Now that the main menu is non-java, you don't need the drop down menus on the right side. I have an idea. Why not move the very bottom frame (the one with the e-mail signup and newsletter sign-up) onto the side menu? Then it would move that important stuff from the bottom to the side.

Other then that I think the updated design looks better then the last one. Now you just jave to go back and fix the little things...

Better. You might want to try looking for a dHTML cascading menu for that left side, if you want to do something fun and interesting. Those notepad graphics are not good. Try creating your own using dingbat fonts. You could come up with something more unique that way.

I still think that you need to provide more content that will be interesting to other people, and make that content more prominent. Think about a possible newbie audience. The stuff in your "Surfer" section is very technical sounding - newbies won't know what a lot of this is.

It would be a good idea to have a short site of the day box on the main page (kinda like Webmonkey's Monkey bites). Also recommended software, stuff like that. Right now this site seems to be focused more on the site itself rather than than your visitors.

ONe more thing - the logo should blend in more with the background, and lose that java thing on the right side too. It's background doesn't match either and it keeps messing up in my browser (text is sketchy and unreadable)

Justin: Yes I had also thought of the idea of moving the e-mail up there but I thought against it. The reason it is better where it is is so that people will be forced to scroll down to log in to their e-mail. It's there to bring people back right? So why not make them actually view my page rathere than just logging in at the top. This means they are more likely to notice updates and also the banners that I am showing in the middle of the page.

Megan: You are a challenge to please. I kinda like the logo cutting off like that. I tried blending it in with the background colour but I felt it looked a bit cheesey.

As far as the content. you are absolutly correct. I have found that to be the hardest thing when it comes to developing this site and the monkeybites idea you had is a great idea! I am going on the hunt for a rotational text applet of some kind that allows me to display daily facts comments and hints. I was also thinknig of having some kind of help submission page that allows people to submit their advise via a form. This brought me to wonder if it is possible to include an "attach file" field in cgi forms and if it is difficult to do.

I have learnt that successful sites have the nack of generating interest by other people's work for example:

Today see what bob says about driving traffic to your site!

I could say to people that I will include a link to them if they submit a faq or summit.

Anyone else got something to throw in?
