I wanted to get some opinions for people on a newly designed site www.JobJr.com . Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated and would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance,
Brandon

I actually quite like this site. Colours work well as the orange stops the blue from being too cold & boring but the grey keeps it corporate looking.

I think I would have rounded off all the table corners as to me they look like you forgot the other two and get rid of the white space at the bottom of the page.

Good site Smiling

Very nice site and excellent idea... I joined...

I like the logo's/icons that you've used on the top of the pages, but you've used different ones on certain pages... I think maybe stick to the same ones all through...

Hope this takes off

Good job.. the sites overall appearance looks nice and clean, but I do agree that the white space at the bottom needs to go as it makes the site look unfinnished... I noticed this on a few pages and I presume that these are your dynamic content areas.

Also, I found it was a bit slow to load using my dialup.... but the site isnt heavy on images so its probably my end.

Overall it looks great Smiling

Nice Job.
I really like the choice of colors. However, when I clicked a different language, the language changed to that different language, but the text in the center of the page still remained in English. Also, a good idea might be to make the jobjr.com logo at the top of every page link back to the home page. Great Job.

Nice!

My only nitpick is with the blues - too many shades going in my opinion.

First off, I have to say that the colour scheme on here is great - love it!

In NS 6.1 the three content boxes (Main menu, Welcome, Survey) are pushed up on top of the orange line so they appear directly under the login boxes. It looks very squished - I don't know why this is happening.

I found it a little bit difficult to figure out what this site was about when I first saw it - I had to go to the trouble of reading that whole paragraph on there. What you might want to do is think of some sort of motto or phrase under the logo to explain more what the site is about (and yes, I do like to complain about these things sometimes, but only when they're meaningless!)

Main menu - Downloads - I have no idea what I should be able to download from this site, and when I click on it I get login, sign up, and retrieve password links???? What's up with that? Wait, most of those links are sending me to a page like that... must not be finished yet.

I would definitely want to know a lot more about this service before signing up. Will I really be able to network with people who could actually get me a job in my chosen field? Am I able to restrict my networking geographically?

Are you really going to offer the site in that many languages?? Impressive!

One more thing - that logo is a little on the boring side. I would just find a more unique font and play with the relative sizing of Jobs vs. Jr. vs. .com (ie. make "Jr" big and ".com" small) or something like that.

Overall this looks very good though

Thanks everyone for providing me with very helpfull information. I will definitly apply some of your ideas to the site. There have been a few things pointed out that I had kind of overlooked due to the fact that I see it day in and day out.

The site is restricted to members only, so if you try to view other pages, and you are not a member, it will redirect you to the signup/login page. I should probably make that a little clearer.

One question about a comment from davidjaymz:

"I like the logo's/icons that you've used on the top of the pages, but you've used different ones on certain pages... I think maybe stick to the same ones all through... "

Can you specify a little more what you are refering to. I appreciate your imput very much, but I'm not clear as to what you are refering to.

Thanks again everyone for the useful info, I hope more will follow.

Yeah, what you should do is not have those nav options show up unless the user is logged in. Instead you should have some other options that give people more information about this site.

Okay on the homepage you have 7 little icons for emailing you logging out etc etc. But on the user page you have three big icons one being logout... I just thought that it would look better if it was the same icon as the one on the top of the page seens as its doing the same job...
hope this clears that up

Megan Jack:

That particular screen does not show up for logged in/registered users. I think you have a good point about showing more options/info to non-registered users, Im going to take your advice and make some changes.

davidjaymz:

I see what you are saying now, good point. What if I use the same icons, but a little larger, do you think that will flow a little better?

Thanks again for all of your replies, hope to read some more!

I cannot add much I dont think, but possibly.

It looks as though the "killer app" if the ability for people to login and search etc. I think you are focusing too much on that area. I think it should look more integral.

The area you have reserved for these functions are too white, and space out the sites layout way too much. I know I am fragmented, pixelated, and obtuse, I digress! It looks too much like the site is relying on something from the outside, not sure what but remember you have 8 seconds to gain my interest, and if the slightest things throws me off you get cntrl-w'd (closed browser (BTW, if you want links to open in a new window no matter what the target is, hit cntrl shift click, more shortcuts eeek! also you can scroll text size to inspect css styling, and table layout thought by holding the cntrl key and scrolling your mouse, cnrl alt and scrolling with move back and forth in your browser. Back to the layout....

This is what I mean (Picture is worth a thousand words I suppose and I have just about hit that anyway.

K

These are slight modifications and could use some more tweaking to tighten the layout out but I think this shows what I mean.

Polls are generally presumptous on a main page, either drop them out of view, or relocate it.I never enter, or take a poll seriously if it is on the main page, even though most sites do it. This should be reserved as a member specific item since you are targeting your main audience generally.
