Hi,

I've been working on this site for awhile now. You can find it at http://ilinknet.cjb.net. Let me know what you think of the site idea as well as the layout and such. I'm doutbing whether to contiue with it because i don't know what people think of the idea and whether people whether people will sign up for it. There are currently zero members.

Thanx

About the design. It's not bad but needs some work. You need to integrate your colour scheme better (and get rid of the black). Grey with teal would look nice, but you have to use them together more. Right now it looks like you're using three different colour schemes - the background and logo area, the teal and light grey sidebars, and the black and white content area. Your navigation also needs to stand out better - with so few options, I would try doing that as graphics.

The logo needs a little bit of work - try making the first i smaller, and also try using a more unique font. Another thing you need to do is add a little more cellpadding to your content area - it'll make things easier to read.

Actually, I would probably get rid of most of that stuff on the front page - out of the right and left side areas only the navigation is useful - lose the rest. One thing you could ad is a "site of the day" (or week or month - chosen from your subscribers). And put your login boxes right on the front page. Another thing you could put on there is answers to some of the most obvious questions (it's free etc.)

As for the marketabiility of this topic - I would want to know a whole lot mroe. Are links exchanged based on site topics? I mean, will I have a bunch of links that have nothing to do with my site or will they be related? You're also not doing a very good job of describing the service.

Thanx for the input Megan, i'll be trying most of those ideas very soon. As for more information, yes all the sites that you will be linked to are in the same content are, which is chosen during the sign-up proccess. Sites that you will be linked to will be checked frequently for cheaters and such.

I agree with Megan, get rid of the black, pad out your cells to make reading easier and tell us a lot more about the service from the start. You have an idea that could work.

The sign up link on the right at the top doesn't work. I know you have the link elsewhere but I would go to that one first.

You have a good basis but need to give it some personality. Make a stronger logo and yes shrink it slightly.

One other thing, you get a horizontal scroll bar when viewed at 800x600.

Julia - if life was meant to be easy Michael Angelo would have painted the floor....

The horizontal scrolling is considerable at 800x600. Make your tables scaleable by using percentage widths.

The smaller tables use inconsistent widths of cells, which is aesthetically disconcerting. My eyes like symmetry and these aren't symmetrical.

It has that "php nuke" look that is everywhere these days, so to me the design doesn't stand out as original.

Mucho wasted space at the top. *16* non-breaking spaces in a row?! Huge areas of black space. Make your tables fit the text better.

As for the logo. it's just too plain. Maybe add a swish or an accent of some kind, like a lens flare or sparkle or such to dot one of the "i"s? Appears to be just text, you should work on a nice graphic for your logo. A logo really sets the tone for a site.

Oh yes - definately bag the black. As far as general layout goes, it's alright. Clean and navigable enough. Since it's only a link site you don't need to clutter it up with pictures, but a uniquer logo would help the layout along a lot, like Gizmoid said.

The color idea is okay, but it really does look like two different schemes. You should lighten the background grey a tad and make the other shade closer to that, but still contrasting and such. The teal on grey is har to look at for me.. use black or a darker shade of teal for the text. And the light blue buttons on the top don't fuit at all. If they were teal, then sure.

If it were me, i'd add some interest by using three shades of grey and two of teal. It would be hard but effective, at least it's effective in my head.
