New PI Website
Hi my new webiste is up and running.
I'm in the process of setting up the testimonial guestbook that can be acessed from the testimonial's page and I hope to have gotten it working in a few days.
The site's design is perhaps the best I've ever done.
The only problem I can see with it is the three red, yellow, gold tables at the bottom of the index page. i just can't seem to justify them? Any ideas? perhaps I should make them much more similar in word count?
to compare, the old site can be found at http://www.freewebs.com/ukpeoplefinder/
This is a pr2 thanks to the last google update, so i'm just going to leave it up there.
Thanks,
Andy

Okay, some of this may sound a bit mean, but remember this: I'm only trying to help, and murder is a crime.
Personally, (besides the fact that it's hosted by FreeWebs, I like the old site better. It's not great either, but it's a bit better design-wise.
First of all, I don't understand the banner, and the plain text name is not necessary along with it. Actually, you should make a better banner and get rid of the text.
The text changing when you hover over it is not only annoying, it's misleading. Most of the time, when text changes in anyway when hovered over, it is a link. Also, you need to either set your tables to not have a border, or change the attributes so that they are more appealing.
I really suggest you hire a web designer. You will have to spend some money, but it sounds (by the testimonials) as if you have a great service and a good design will only draw more customers in, and you'll more than likely make a profit.
Good luck!

I have to agree with mscreashuns, neither site looks professional and although there is nothing wrong with using tables for the layout, having borders showing isn't good and neither is the colour scheme. You need a proper logo which gives your the company and the website an identity and then the design should be based upon that. I would also be wary of having two sites up with duplicate content.

Some sneaking keyword stuffing at the bottom going on there too...be careful you don't get penalised. On it's own it won't help you in the slightest anyway...

with yaho and msn it will. google doesn't care, its more interested in linking and pr.
that's a good link. my service is for when you don't know the dates. other services will charge you £20-£40 to do a 10 year search I'm doing it for like £7 with the certificate order.
I hear what your saying but my other sites are bringing in visitors and cases fine, don't really think a designer would be a profitable expense.
For an amature I thoguht I did okay, the page will rank decently for the keywords and it looks alright. I prefered the border width myself.

Okay, but shouldn't you be more concerned with the way your customers view your site. If your site is more professional-looking, you will look more professional. But you can do whatever you want.

At the end of the day you only know what you're getting now, you don't have the luxury of knowing how much extra business you'd get if you had a website that really wowed people.
So, i agree with mscreashuns, a good site will look good on you. If i'm honest i wouldn't feel confident about you looking at the site, and being a PI is considered - in my perception at least - a bit shady as it is! (Maybe i watch too many movies...)
You also link to a DIFFERENT webmaster forum!
Take a look at this thread for some design inspiration.
Good luck,
-Rob
