New PHP Ecommerce Site
Hello all. I have nearly completed a new site for someone and would enjoy your opinions on it ...
It does not have a lot of frills. Mainly I tried to stick to the KISS method. There are still some very obvious issues I am aware of ... They are mainly in the Information pages for shipping/returns and the Privacy disclaimer/notice.
This is a fully functional website so please be cautious about submitting any orders.
Let the Good times roll ... Looking forward to your advice. I mainly built the site for IE and Netscape browsing so I am looking forward to hearing from some of you on other browsers.
By the way ... there is a landing page that I have not decided to get rid of or not. The main purpose for it right now is to get Google to list some decent info on the site.

It's too hard to read. Center the content in a fixed table so it can be easily read. That's the purpose of a landing page, to have it all in one place. You're making the visitor move their eyes too much.
Sincerely,

Don't like the landing page that much... Although I like simple, i think the design doesn't exploit the purpose of the simple approach.
Second, The logo could really require some work... A good logo can reflect professionalism and credibility...
I like the organization of the main catalog page although the blue you selected is too light for a white bg.
And whats with the bold - italicized fonts? Just make it into a regular font-style... Still I suggest you need a better logo...

I was trying to be discrete about the rest of it, thanks for ruining it, Demonhale. J/k. Yes, very good points and the logo can use a good make over.
Sincerely,

- Firstly: landing page. Users and search engines, two very important things to consider when designing a site, hate them. Research has shown that users can't be bothered reading large chunks of text and just get on to want they want to do. In this case they've come here to shop, you don't need to tell them why they've come here, and anyway that text is repeated on the front page of the store. So scrap the landing page. Also a small point: - you link to a design company, but incorrectly. You need to specify http:// , as at the moment it points to http://memory2dvd.com/mcslinux.com, which of course returns a 404
- To find out what needs to be on the front page of the store, you don't need to shell out millions in research: just look at successful sites which are similar to yours. Take Amazon, for example. It's got featured products and adverts about special offers on its front page - you must do the same.
- I recognize you're limited in terms of the eCommerce package and its design, but I would suggest bigger fonts, and scrap the icons top-right as the user has to waste time hovering over them to find where they link to. Most of the products seem to be free, and the rest services, so a whole eCommerce package does seem a bit unnecessary. Just use PayPal.

Thank you all for your input. I agree about the landing page ... I need to find something to do with that. The owner of the site gave me the logo ... didn't like it much but with your inputs I think I can get them to change their mind about it now ...

Hi,
My evaluation below is based on my studies as an Internet Application Programmer with biased in ecommerce development.
1. Text on main page is hard to read and i think you need to allign it more professionally and also change the font face.
2.The home page refreshes within 3 minutes which might be hard for slow readers to read through your introductory information. Here, the purpose of 'click here to enter' icon is defeated.
3.I feel there's no need for the VHS logo, since your site is primarily dealing on DVD's.Also,i think you should separate the logo from your company name.
4.No contact information.Apart from the web form, I feel you need to have a toll -free line plus a working email where customers can reach you directly.
5.Under your right hand panel ,the language icon should carry 'English' and not a british flag.
On the whole, your site is kool!

First of all, I would get rid of the landing page, it looks outdated and outmoded....
On the main site, I would get a new logo because the logo that you have in place now looks cheap...it just sends a bad.......message. You also need a lot more content if you expect get any search engine traffic......on a bright note, you do not have contextual ads plastered everywhere.......

Hi Compwolf,
Looking at your site,
1) As a website visitor, i would say the website looks uninteresting but as you said you used a no frills option.maybe coloured text could make a better contrast with the plain background.
2) As a developer and a user, functionality wise, the site is very good. It is also smooth when it comes to navigability, and ease of use.
3) Its simplicity will also make it attractive to users who are not so used to the internet as it portrays simplicity.
4) the images used are also appropriate for the site.
5) Links are working well.
Note, am using some criteria listed in an ecommerce site as well as from a user's point of view.

As a E-commerce Web site, this site did not grab my attention, I mean when i go to it's home page, It just have the text description, which could not attract users. This website did not have good graphic design. The usablility and technical part is quite good, because it has account sign in, and work funtionallities, but the discription of any item in the site does not have much detail, anyway, that is not a good ecoomerce web site to make me to buy your service or product.
Reson
1. poor graphic desin
2. less information to give users
