need a brainstorm.... -
i'm about to create a new web-site and would love to hear your opinions to my idea:
the web-site is supposed to be an all-about-programming-page, cgi, html, c++ and all that stuff....
there will be forums for each topic, downloads not only of programs and scripts but also small txt-files like environment-variables listed to print out just for convenience (i hate to go online or search a thousand books 'til i find the list i need), pages for beginners where faq's are answered...
my question is:
when you are looking for help, what do you need most frequently???
any suggestions what to include on a site like this? of course i know many of these sites but none of them was 100% to me and i just don't want to create "another-cute-help-for-all-and-nothing"-thing wasting expensive space on the server....

I would say the #1 thing I need when looking for help is documentation. I use my perl and asp books a hundred times a day to create certain effects, but I would LOVE to have an easily searchable, fast loading e-referrence to the languages I use and love. But most importantly, examples of how to use the commands. An example of what I am talking about is located at: http://www.extropia.com/faq/perl_faq.html
To me, this is the ultimate reference, and one that I provide about 20 hits a day to. Just a little feedback

Hi Patrick
I would go back to all of the sites, figure out why they weren't 100% and make yours look/work better
1. have it be well organized
2. easy for us "beginners" to understand--include directions
3. search
4. working examples of the scripts if possible
The programming experts will be able to help you more with this topic
take care,
