Is my forum boring?
Hi, it been about 2 months now and i have a total of 73 members in my fourm. It's a graphics forum and i know there heaps out there that i have to compete with. Now there are only 5% of people that actually post in my forum, i've tried various ways to get them to post. It's works for about a week and then it dies down again. I'm runnig out of ideas on how i can better my forum.
Anyway how could i improve my forum? Is it boring? is my colour scheme all right? Any comments or suggestion thanx..

A forum is really content, only so many ways to set out a forum, even on this forum (at the bottom of the main page) you'll see we get a lot of guests that dont post. The point people are coming to them is the main thing.
the mian header links members, leaders etc are really hard to read until you mouse over them.
You could probably rename a couple of sections, like "finished work" in the 2D section, make it more for people to "show off" their work, people (talented) love to show off their work
WIP could be "projects" or something
"Need help making good looking low poly models?"
whats a low poly model ?
I'm not to fond of greens, but they work in this case, the grey doesnt suit however.
Also think you need more beginer sections, or mention of them, mention PSP, PS etc

thanx.. i'll fix those things up. I've tried many colour that i thought would match up well with green. But grey was the only one that i think was readable.
any ideas on colours that you think might go well?
Thanx.

I agree with busy about content, etc but I find the site very dark and maybe a little unwelcoming. Maybe use the orange to lift things a little?

I wouldn't say the cells as this would be overpowering and I don't think would look right but maybe the links and headings??

Hmmm, not sure see what others think, but maybe have the links at the top nav box rollover to orange? One thing that has annoyed me everytime I look at it is the auto resize! I have a large res screen but I like my browser windows to open up small (800*600) then if I want to enlarge it I will but not to be automatically done for me. Maybe this is just a personal niggle for me??!!

hehe. i've change the "cat" headings back to black, If you on the forum title, the title is orange that i like, as for the roll over to orange i've tried that and it didn't work..
I made it auto resize is because i didn't want to restrict members form cutting down there images.i hope this makes sense..

My first impression as to why you don't have a lot of posts is that you've got too many forums to start out with. I think it would be better to start out small, with only a few (say 2D, 3D, web & general talk) then gradually divide into more as you need them.
I agree that the colours are a little dark - I would lighten up the green for the post content area at least.

first thing that grabbed my eye was the big fat typo. It is spelt "beginners"
secondly, I searched high and low for a black/orange cat!
I missed the category headers as orange but I'm not sure that it would have worked for me anyhow. I'm not sure what to suggest as an alternative - one of the blues from your header perhaps?

yeah, llike the others i find it dark and unwelcoming. Orange looks good, orange rollovers would be great I think And maybe try to fit in a llittle more orange. And maybe just change the background to white, leavee the tables green, just the background a normal white would make a bg difference here.

Wow I think your forums look great. I would maybe suggest lightening it up a few shades though. I actually really like it because I don't like plain colors and grey.
Its sometimes hard to make a color scheme for your site and make sure it is standard everywhere. I think you've done it nicely.
You seem to be worring about making the users who are already signed up, to make posts - maybe I misunderstood you. If thats the case I'd say your going about it the wrong way.
Forums are a catch 22, you need people to post before you get views, and you need views before you get people to post. I'd say worry about optimizing your page for search engines, advertisment, and bringing more traffic to your site in general.
The members you have now probably never look at your site anymore, thats why they don't post. So doing site promotions or prettying it up won't help at all.
Just a suggestion.
Also, did you build that forum? Or buy it? I'd like to build my own sometime but for now I'd like to implement one on a few sites I have, but I don't want to spend $100 or more on it. Just curious how you came about yours.
