It's here!!! Do you belive it! I've been talking about doing this for years so it's amazing that I finally have something (almost) ready. I'm sill in the building stages but I wanted to get your feedback now.

I also have to say that I'm really excited about this. I love the way the design turned out. I've had this picture in my head for months and it turned out just the way I pictured. How often does that happen?!? I just have a few things I'm not sure about:

  • The little fly in the header area - doesn't look right to me. I might just take it out. If I have time tonight I'll try some other variations to put up.
  • Text colour. I can't find the right shade

I haven't finalized what's going to be on the navigation menu. I'm definitely replacing Resume with Photos. Oh, and I cleared up the CSS problem mentioned in the first entry there (display: block problem).

I think that's all. Let me know what you think. I'm sure you all won't like the colours scheme (very girly) but I do, so too bad Wink

P.S. I'm really liking Wordpress. Once I got my database setings figured out it was a breeze to install. It's got great featrues, including subcategories which was one of the things I was looking for, AND it's standards compliant.

Just a few suggestions:

Try making the butterfly a terquoise. You can take it from the upperleft hand corner of the header.

I don't really like the nav rollover color, but it's your color scheme.

I don't know how much of a difference it would make, but try fixing the background image.

For the text color, I would try something a little more red. I've been working with the C0 palette (#C00000, #00C000, #0000C0) and that red may work.

That's a good idea. I was thinking about how I could use that green colour somewhere else without it getting too cluttered looking. I'll give that a try when I get a chance.

Thanks for your comments, I appreciate it! I wasn't sure about the rollover colour either but it's the best option I could find.

PS. Looks like my host is having some sql problems right now so the site is down for the time being. If it's not working for you check back again later.

Hey, just clicked your link and got this:

"Error establishing a database connection! This probably means that the connection information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect. Double check it and try again.

Are you sure you have the correct user/password?

Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?

Are you sure that the database server is running?"

Sad I'm in Safari on a G5, OSX 10.3.3, if that helps...

I know - see the last part of my previous post. I'm a little annoyed that it's taking this long to fix!

ETA: It is fixed! Try reloading if you're still getting an error.

Hey I like the pink! Its a different color scheme for a website (not too many pink sites out there you know). I like your banner but I'm not crazy about the rollover color on the links under it. Eventhough it matches the color scheme it just still doesn't seem to fit (could be just me though ...)

But overall ... I like Smiling

Its really well laid out, the main links along the top are too big though, IMHO, I would make them smaller!

I like it a lot Megan, it's pink yes, but not in a disturbing way.

Personally I would decrease the nav items' width so that the nav bar will be vertically aligned with the vertical line you have left of the links. But that's just a minor thing Smiling

Also I would like to point out that the links/search/archive section on the right drops out of the main white box at the bottom in FireFox on W98 and Safari and FireFox on MacOSX.

But did I already mention that I like it? Laughing out loud

Looks hot. I personally like the top logo a lot. A bit large though, so it prevents a new user from seeing what the site is about.

I do like the color scheme a lot. Pink/Orange is a nice girly combo. The filler on the right and left (White dots on pink) is just slightly weak/annoying if you actually notice it. I think it would be less noticable if there wasn't visible ABOVE your logo. Try to get rid of that top . Also, if you can come up with something slightly better for the side filler, I would switch it up.

Nice design! Although I am also not a big fan of huge header graphics. Seems like it would look better cropped just above the butterfly's antennae.

The first time I loaded it, there was a bullet with no text beside it in the list. Probably just a glitch in my browser, but couldn't hurt to tell you. It went away after I refreshed.

I looked at it in Firefox and IE. Firefox didn't look pretty when the page didn't have much content. The sections I looked at were Recipes, Web Design, Photos and Contact.

That firefox problem will sort itself out when the content is added.

Thanks for all the great comments!

Looks good, I like the color.

I am viewing this in Firefox 1.0 and when I click on Contact and photos the bottom of the page doesn't load and your right panel nav doesn't have a backgroud. The links, search, archives and other just float there in space on your pick and white dotted background.

Other than that it looks rad.

Nice colours, bright but not over the top.
And the layout and fonts give it an almost printed sort of feel, if that makes sense.

Finally! It's an excellent site. Loads well in Firefox/Linux. The striking colours really do create a good, strong first impression. Smiling

I like the colours generally, though the header might be too intense for me. The darker tones look too saturated.

The dots in the backgruond could be more subtle. Not a big deal, but I agree with HoldemCrew that it can get distracting once you realise it's there.

The links are very confusing. Header links don't have underlines but others do -- this is ok except that the colour is not distinct enough from the normal headers. Then the links in the byline, which are underlined like the comment links, don't change colour on hover. Whereas the links in the nav on the right gain an underline but don't change colour. I have difficulty discerning hues (as well as other visual problems) so I'd appreciate if the links were easier to follow. Smiling

Everything else is very nice, very you. I'm glad you kept the butterfly, it's unique. I like the layout and fonts, which as syawilim said, give it that printed feel. Homey and personal, I guess.

Nice work. Smiling

Thanks, Abhi. I'll definitely put more thought into the link properites. I also plan on toning down the background dots when I get a chance.

The dotted pink background reminds me of the strawbeery shortcake dolls (not that I play with dolls) lol
The design and layout are very elegant, you've done a good job with it
