Logo & Site Review - Need your input!

Hi guys,

This is my first site and I would like your honest opinion of it. I know it is fairly simple but I was going for something that looks good but functions great!

It is a health & fitness directory (I know, just what the internet needs is yet another directory Smiling ) so I was trying to give it a clean look. I also wanted the logo to look energetic which is why I have the starburst.

So go ahead and give me your best (or worst Wink )

fitconnection.com

Thanks!

Chris

The logo is stunning! It really is, it stands out initialy (good for a logo) but also fits in well with the rest of the site. Good job!

OK Chris. I found your problem. Your tables are a little messed up. You start with a table and then end it, but then have </td> and </tr> tags that don't have beginning tags or even a beginning table tag. Tables can get pretty confusing if you don't watch it. I usually try to only have one or two tables and embedded tables on a page just to make it easier, by using colspan and rowspan tags. Check out your code after your first table. Good luck. Let me know when you have corrected it and I will go to that page again to see if it looks better.

Thanks again dflydsgn.

My only concern is my whole site is based on one CGI directory script. I just created one template and inserted a few plugins from the script.

If all the other pages look okay, it could be a problem with the script and I have no idea how to edit that!

I try and take a look though when I get home to see if I can fix it.

Hey Chris,

I saw your reply to my post in another thread, so I thought I'd give you a little input here. This is a really great site, especially for your first try. I'm glad that you did some reading on good design (as you said in that other thread) - there are so many "designers" who think that knowing the code is enough.

I don't really see a lot of problems on here...umm... okay, being really picky here - the font on your date and copyright notice are different from the rest of the page - I would make them all the same.

Hmm... you might want to find a way to make the lengths of the two columns match up (or come close) - I don't like how there's all that space in the middle there. This is being picky though, because I think this site looks great.

Mouseovers on the top navigation graphics might look cool.... not important though.

Did you hanbpick all the sites? Just curious..

I have some kind of directory myself, www.goKewl.com, and I know how time consuming it is to get all the addresses + description, etc.

Good Job!

It looks great. I also really like the logo. It is very functional and clean, and pleasant to look at. The only thing is at What's cool, your table is a little screwy. Did you do this for yourself or were you hired to do it?

Thanks for all the quick feedback! I appreciate all of the nice comments.

goKewl - Yes I did handpick all of the sites and it was VERY time consuming. Fortunately, I have a job where I work on the Interent all day providing customer support so in my down time (which is most of the time here) I was able work on finding good sites. It helps make the day go by faster too.

dflydsgn - I just checked out the What's Cool table and I didn't see anything wrong with it. Could you be a bit more specific? If you see something I can improve on, I would like to know! As for your other question, I just did the site for myself as a way to learn about the web. There is nothing like hands on experience. I am getting a little tired of tweaking it and adding new sites so I am looking forward to the next phase of marketing and eventually making money (hopefully Wink)

Thanks again and keep 'em coming!

Chris, I put a screen shot of that page online. This is the way my browser, Netscape 4.5, reads that page. But I looked at the code and couldn't find anything wrong.

Damn, that looks terrible! Was it only on that page or the What's New as well (I believe they use the same code)?

Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it?

Thanks for the page view!

Chris
