Last time, I promis
Hi Again everyone, I feel bad only coming to these forums for help, but I just can't find the time anymore with this project I'm trying to get up. I'll be back though! But in the meantime, could you possibly please tell me what you think of the design and content of: http://www.webdevresources.com
and if you have the time: webdevnetwork.com (its a small site)
Thanks a lot!

All I have to say are three things...
1) Are you and Matt Kaufman scheming to make all webmaster sites has that save design? It's boring and used everywhere by now! BTW- the grey background isn't working well with that design.
2) The categories you have are very interesting. I have never seen a site with a 'Schools' category. That was about the highlight of the site; sad to say.
3) Finally, get rid of the brick look with the logo. Just doesn't fly. It's a little too small also.
Don't like it is my point...

Ok, here's my expanded review...
1) The logo. It's too small in my opinion. I would give it around 15 to 20 pixels space. Not only will this give the logo more space, but it will give the banner ad more space. Right now it's really cramped in there. Second, the logo isn't too flashy. When I first look at the page my eyes first focus on the banner ad. Not good! Thirdly, why is there a brick 'thing' stuck there on the logo? It doesn't go with the flow or scheme of the site at all...
2) The navigation. Now really, I have seen this navigation used on hundreds of sites. Sure, it looks okay, but it's not original at all. But if you like it, then you might as well add bullets, 'cause it will make it more organized in my opinion.
3) The background. Now, grey on grey just doesn't go. Sure, different shades of blue, which is an interesting color, would look ok, but grey? It's blah to say the least. If I were you I'd experiment with a few different colors. Maybe yellow would look good, I dunno.
4) The articles page. It's really unorganized. Like I said about the menu, you need to add bullets next to each link so people can read it and understand it more.
Edit: removing name calling

Here are my points
1.The site is very similar to many sites on the web that i have seen.
2.The logo could do with an image in to get peoples attention.
3.If you like the design then just take no notice of me.

I'm back! Did you miss me? I just didn't realize that the forum was back - for some reason I didn't think to go back to the main webmaster-forums page and check if it was back.
Anyway, I removed a couple of posts from this thread. Please keep the name calling off the board guys. Others don't need to read that.
As for Web Dev Resources. I agree that it could look a little more unique. I really like the yellow header graphics - those really stand out to me. Maybe you could incorporate more yellow into the rest of the design, or try to make some nav graphics in that style.
I agree that the logo needs to be bigger (and the drop shadow on that should be smaller) and the menu should be changed as well. I don't understand why so many sites are using those little nav explanations. It's not necessary in most cases IMHO.
Interesting to see that you have a "Schools" link on there. It would be really nice if you could expand that to include institutions from countries other than the US. As a Canadian I always like to see a sense of consideration for the rest of the world. Or maybe you could expand this into a general jobs/training section with links to job sites, resume advice, what to learn and when, how to learn it etc. That page is too long BTW - you should try to find a way to split it up into several categories.
THere are a heck of a lot of webmaster resource type sites out there. That's a lot of compeittion for you. A more unique design would definitely help, as would more content.

I have to agree it looks exactly like Matt's. I really don't see any problems though. Just the design is overused. I like the 3D stuff.
