Me again folks, I have been asked to completely rebuild the site that I had previously posted here and as a work in progress I would like to know what you guys think of the new design.

http://firstpointofaries.co.uk/

***PLEASE NOTE***

* Although the name of the main site has changed this is still the same company.
* This new site is built to the customer's specifications and as yet is incomplete.
* The website I previously posted here is being rebuilt and placed within the new site.
* As this is a work in progress there are a lot of links that don't do anything YET

I cannot stress enough the fact that this IS a work in progress and, as such, any comments relating to lack of content will be disregarded as I already know I have a lot of work to do in that area.

First page menu buttons need different font. It is hard to read names of the links.
Make them a bit smaller they look way to big.
Basic photoshop background isn't very good looking ether.

I would redesign whole site, so far it looks very amateurish.

Cheers

Ok, first of all, let me just stress once again that this IS a work in progress and that it HAS just been completely re-designed from the ground up.

***PLEASE NOTE***

*As far as the size and design of the buttons themselves are concerned, they are to the specifications given to me by the company owner.
*The overall design for the background was created by the same person the way he wanted it.
*The website is designed in such a way so as anyone with questions about FPA, what they do, what they're about, what the words on the buttons say, can contact the owner for answers to these questions

and finally...

* I AM an amateur and am asking for constructive criticism (helpful advice) not a load of nit-picking that offers no help at all.

Thank you.

Okay, I think you need to negotiate with this company owner then. The point of having a website is to provide information so people don't have to contact the owner to get those answers. Most people just won't bother. Actually, I'd say that all people just won't bother. From this it's difficult to tell what the site is about.

I think you could work with that background image but those buttons are really dated looking. they remind me of something I did in the 90's. If the client is providing you with all the design specifications, then why doesn't he just do it himself?

For the purposes of providing a critique it would be helpful to have a bit of information about what this company does. Then we can evaluate the suitability of the design.

With respect Megan... and I know you're admin here so I'm choosing my words very carefully... if I could draw your attention to the "Web Design" page (from the main page, click "Pix@grafX" then "Home" and "Web Design") you will see some content there that explains, from the owner's point of view, why the website is designed as it is.

As for knowing what this company does... you might have seen from the main page that FPA is the "umbrella" site for 4 other sub-companies, "Pix@grafX", "SeaXcapes", "DressXpress" and "MotobyXe". Currently only "Pix@grafX" and "MotobyXe" are complete to the owner's satisfaction and the other two sites are still under construction.

As I've said from the very first post under this topic this IS a work in progress and I am still waiting for more content. Also please bare in mind that all the content on the site is subject to change.
