iBook as website
Here's a prototype of my new personal website.
Keep in mind that:
-At this moment only Showroom/Internet and Showroom/Other have some real content.
-I did not test it at all except in IE5.
Reason why I post this is because I want to know what you guys think of the idea.
Greetz and thanx in advance,

Well, that is definately unique looking. The only thing that I would suggest so far is to add some color and on the showroom/audio page the text is right up against the left edge. Maybe indent it just a tad. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Very nice
Only things I would say are that after a while the text gets hard to read being so small and pale (not that I can actually read & understand most of it!!) and it runs right up against the rail.

Thanx for the quick reply and nice feedback !
I was thinking about color adds and margins... Not quite sure yet how and what...
Could you please tell me which browser you've used to check the site?
thanx again!

Cool idea!
Nice fit for 800x600 but almost illegible at 1152x768. What about a couple of versions for varying screen resolutions?
Things don't work at all in Netscape - black screen on the laptop. I'm sure you expected this though

Tested in :
IE5 works ok.
Netscape 6.2 image comes up ok but nothing else works and the bottom line on the updated...... isn't visible on the white part.

Very original.
I think you need to make the laptop screen bigger as there isn't really enough space to put a decent amount of content in it unless your text and graphics are really tiny.
It's good to see someone thinking a little differently.

Hmmm... weird. Doesn't seem to be working in Opera 6. I can see the graphics and everything, I assume as you intend them, but the links aren't working at all. Switching to IE...
Interesting concept I think. You should try to incorporate your site title into the design somehow, and I agree that it would be nice to make the screen a little bigger. I would also like to see some more colour in here, and put those nav links in a sans-serif font. I find it odd that some of the text is in Dutch and some in English - would probably be better to do the entire site in both languages and provide a link to switch between the two.

Everybody, thanx for the replies.
Bertiek:
Actually, the text and images are indeed really tiny.
thanx!

thanx!

First of all, thanx!
Opera 6: true, did not test it yet for Opera, NS... only IE5 at this moment.
Incorporating site title: Yeah, i was thinking about it, but as well as the margins and the color adds, I haven't got any ideas for it yet..., but I was planning to work on it.
Two languages: Haha, the Dutch text is dummy text... Forgot to mention that . The whole site is going to be in English btw.
Sans-Serif Font: Actually, I think I'm going to stick with this one . The pic represents an iBook (used it because I think it's a neat thing --> not a Mac fan though ), and Apple uses this same font, so I kinda use this one to keep it recognizable. I was even thinking of bringing the text 'iBook' back on it (I removed it )
Anyone else?

NS 4.7 - the laptop lines up perfectly, centered in frame with small space around it (800x600), I'll have to wait for the ilayer sections for the rest.
IE 5.5 - doesnt fit so well, the top section is actually being cut off, theres no scroll bar but looks like there should be if you werent using frames. The links at the bottom are to dull, looks more like part of the image than links, maybe at least swap the onmouseover colors, (dark first)
and the removed status bar link, I dont trust sites without being able to see the link. normaly i'd say something about loosing the use of my mouse wheel but I think this design is an exception, cant wait for the NS version looking good

What now funny characters in your page title. Actually Jack you did give me an idea. In one of your previous sites, your had your title page spaced with nbsp's as a way to kern the title. I started playing around with it and figured out a pretty good use for it. I started putting a nbsp at the beginning of the page title. This way if someone bookmarks my site and sorts the bookmarks, mine will be on top. Try it.
But I digress. I like the site overall. Just a few things that bug me though.
Nice prototype.

one of the moe unique ideas i have ocme acros..really good.
now to nitpick:
1) What langage was that in.
2) could you increase the screen of the comp..things look a bit crowded. spoils the entire effect. Mind you i am using 1024x768.
All in all pretty good site..

onmouseover colors: I'll think about that one... found it a bit dull myself too at this point actually
status bar: I'll keep that in mind.

-nsbp in page titles: heh heh!
ehm... what? You were checking in IE5 right?
change the layout and color-usage in the content pages by using SS-includes and different css-files.
About the blue links... I thought they were gray actually...
arcmax
1) Dutch
2) Although I want to increase the screen-size, I think it's gonna be a little hard. This was the largest photo of an iBook I could find... and I don't want to slice it and use tables --> repeating images i do not like
andyn20
thanx!
I'll keep you informed about updates, think it's gonna take a while because of exams and the holidays :santa:

hey Jack - a typo or two in your OS alert:
unfortunately
do you want, "...allows you to change the operating system..."? - or "...to the operating system..."?

Hello,
I've got an updated version
Please tell me what you think of it.
-it's still only for IE.
-OS changing functionality does not work yet.
what do you think of the screenshot viewer?
Thanx in advance,

The font 'home', etc. is in is a bit difficult to read.
Why isn't the picture of me clickable for an enlargement?
The screenshot viewer - can't read anything on it but they look very pretty.
185cm eh!
Very good

Nice! I really wanted to do something similar to this for my portfolio - ya beat me to it
Much easier to read now even at 1152x864. It would be nice if it centered for high res users though.
I find the red font that the webmistress refers to legible enough to read but not clear enough to identify the precise font (Tempus maybe?) Either way, it is a little too "curvy" and doesn't really fit the theme.
I didn't try it in Netscape - does it work?

well, I'm lookin' at it in IE (barf!), so that oughta tell ya something - I gotta run, so just get in the chair, we'll get some novocaine in ya, and this'll be over before ya know it
on Links
"...moderators can tell you [delete]about[/delete] everything you want to know about anything ..."
I realize you may be after "good" line breaks on this, so you may need to revise (or disregard  ) these suggestions in that light
I'd prob'ly drop the periods at the end of the section titles - I'd try puttin' "in Dutch" in parentheses
criticising - shouldn't "dutch" be capitalised?
cap "december"?
on Contact
"To contact me by email, click here" - I might try "Blah blah blah, you can contact me by email through your default mail application."
on About me
ya like periods, eh buddy?
on Showroom
a space in "Internetsite"?
"They help people find solutions to complex problems..."
"...by Armin Van Buuren, a producer and DJ of..."
"[delete]This company named[/delete] Weighpack International is based..."
ya might go with "in the production of weighing and packaging..." - maybe "a world leader"?
rinse, please

Cool! Could you bold the "Ruudonline" part? I think that should stand out a little more.

Still not sure about the mouseover colors, the red is kinda flat, maybe a blue?
nice protrait what filter did you use for that?
At 800x600 (on IE) I'm getting two skinny black lines at the very top (top left, and top right) either side of the screen.
About me page: "length: 185 cms" is that in a drunken state, or do you not stand up right lol
Looking good.

-There will be different versions of 'home', when the OS change functionality is ready.
-me isn't clickable because .... (I'm a bit shy  )

"ya beat me to it" heh heh
"It would be nice if it centered for high res users though." To me it does...
"red font" see reply on webmistress's feedback
"NS" not yet.

[mmi]
I'll fix the typos. Once again is proven that my English isn't the best
[/mmi]
[megan]
"bold" I'll think about that.
[/megan]
[busy]
"mouseover colors" yeah, I'm not sure about them either...
"nice protrait filter" I guess it was one of the Flaming Pearl series. I'll come back on that one.
"skinny black lines" hmmm... I don't get that.
"length: 185 cms" You don't wanna know
[/busy]

Ah, so it does... once I hit reload. Your "onResize/reload" doesn't appear to be working for me (IE6)
