As you know, HTML-Source.net takes you through both the simple steps...

If I'm supposed to already know this (which I don't), why are you telling me?

Maybe this is just me but hyphenating website doesn't seem right

THat whole long chunk of text on the first page needs to go - it's extremely pointless and doesn't say much beyond the obvious. Replace it with highlights of some of your new additions or important lessons - something different!

No - NOT Important at all. To you maybe, but not to me.

Now, as for the design. I really like the yellow and grey on the menus - that part looks great. I do not like the black part at the top - too dark and chunky, the curves seem weird the way they seem to go off the edge of the page like that. I would make that just a sold rectangular grey back. I would also change the logo a little bit - lose the curve idea, it looks warped, and try something different with the font. Also make the whole thing a little bigger.

Reading some of your content here - the writing style seems very stilted to me and there are tons of grammatical errors (learn how and when to use a comma!). It would be a good idea to work on your writing style (try reading more - it helps, trust me).

I found the site looks very different in Netscape 4.7, than it does in Netscape 6 or IE 5, looking at your source code I see its your .css set up as well as bad HTML, In Netscape 4.7 the side tables have yellow lines above the curves due to no width, height tags.
I feel if your teaching it, you should lead by example, you dont use width, height or alt tags in your coding, maybe you should run it through a validater.

I cant go to any pages, all come up with .php errors
"Parse error: parse error in /usr/local/plesk/apache/vhosts/html-source.net/httpdocs/tutorials.php3 on line 1892"

As for the layout on just the first page, the top black part looks like its being cut off, the banner in there looks bad, the dark grey around the animation, and the www & .com parts are really hard to make out what it says.

you also mention on the page "our team" and "we" but then later say you alone have done it, or "I" which is it?

Like Megan Jack has mentioned, there is a lot of un needed text on there, like the part where it says this is yoru only domain at the moment ... stuff like that should be on a "about me" page, maybe.

One more thing, you use the word "Colour", and I see your from the UK, I myself am from NZ and we spell colour the same way but color in HTML is the American way, without people knowing where you are from, could be seen as a typo.

It looks the same to me as it does in IE5 and Netscape 4.7. I see that there is a little work to be done to make it exactly the same.

I thought that the cut off effect would be seen as different and therefore liked..maybe i was wrong?

as for the PHP error that is because I changed a little on the tutorials.php3 file and it didn't upload correctly, sorry about that it is fixed now.

The HTML will be cleaned up - I was just working on the layout and not the HTML.

The banner at the top is just there for a demonstration, it's an old banner but im going to make a new html-source banner when i get a spare ten minutes or so.

Colour/Color, I suppose I should note to people that I am UK based or just change the spelling of colour to color.

Thanks for the feedback though guys, it's appreciated and I will work to what you say Smiling

Yellow/black/grey makes a great combination, but then on the other hand the "handscript" font makes a bit "un-pro" look. Same goes for the upper of the page. Does it have to be rounded ?

Top banner looks better and pages work now Smiling

One thing you should look at adding is a "top" link at the bottom of each page, or even a "next subject" link.

It kinda looks like its missing something, but cant figure out what. the pages dont look complete (maybe its just the cold getting to me)

As for the color/colour, I gave into the American way a few years ago, over half the viewers on the web seem to be from USA so was just easier to dont the 'u', I had a joke site called "Humour4u" and got a few emails a month saying I spelt humor wrong, or that it was spelt with no u.

This is nothing to do with your site or design but do you think the marquee section is wise, esp in the basic section, I mean the dreaded marguee tag is in the top ten hated and abused tags out there isnt it?

The marquee tag probably is the most dreaded lol. But the thing is it's still HTML. I hate marquee's as I'm sure all of you do but the idea of the basics section is so that a 'newbie' can put a website together, in many 'newbie' websites you see marquees. I know this doesn't really have anything to do with it and why it is there but I think that the marquee tutorial should stay there, maybe I should put some little warnings about that its not compatible with all browsers etc.

btw its coloUr to all you americans out there lol. I'll change that when i get five minutes Smiling

Thanks guys!

One thing I noticed is that the black border that goes down the right hand side of each table on the left are not showing up all the way. They disappear when I scroll down the page. Is this just my computer doing this or is something wrong here?

You have a nice collection of advise here but there is something missing from the top. Can't quiet put a finger on it.

Yes I am curious to know if others are seeing the problem with the thin black table borders on the left. Might be time for an puter overhaul if it is just me.

Well I guess that you don't have to upgrade your computer. There are some black lines probably caused because of the table bground color.

I personally think it is poor coding to use line breaks in your tables for your side navbar. In your case I would use tr's and cellspacing to acheive this. The text as it is looks a little bit too crowded.

Do us all a favor and remove the link where you teach people how to use marques.

The logo that you have may be kind of trendy but it loses the point of getting your name out there. Could you imagine if someone like coke made a logo that you couldn't see.

Well M8, I am glad that your tables need overhauling and not my computer. Sorry!!

Thanks marving for checking that. I do agree with marv about the logo too. It needs spicing up and made a tad larger. It kinda looks like another add to go along with the one that overpowers it to the right.

Oh, and now only half of the logo is showing up.

I cant really add alot to the above except for one thing...

When showing example HTML code on the tutorial pages, would it not be a better idea to colour code the code (sic).

This would help the reader understand what is going on...
