Hello again all (macksites.com)
Hi again everyone at webmaster forums.
The last time I posted in here was about 5 years ago.
In the mean time my site sort of rolled along gently, and has a good hit rate. I've spent the last few months revamping and think I am almost "finished".
If anyone has time, please take a look. Any suggestions would be most welcome as I think I am long past the "being too close" syndrome.
Anyway, best regards and best wishes to all here for the season.

Hi, Bob. Welcome back to the forums! SOrry it took so long to get to your site - it seems to have slipped through the cracks here.
I think I actually remember seeing this when you first posted it 5 years ago! We don't get too many sites on topics like this.
THis is not bad. It looks like you've changed some things since you first posted. One problem I have here is that the site feels very very narrow. Your table width is set to 646 which is pretty small. This could easily be expanded to about 750 or so to make the best use of the available screen space.
Anothe rproblem I have is that the design changes significantly after the front page. It's nice and consistent after that, but it is odd to see a completely different layout and different logo/header graphic. This should be consistent. There should also be more prominent and clearly identified navigation.
I was a little confused about the listings on the front page. The first part is your content but then you have some links to external sites that are not clearly labelled and not distinguished from your content. These should be labelled more clearly so the user knows where they're going, and treated differently so you can visually identify them as different from your content links. The "YOUR NEW SITE" link, for example, actually goes to a hosting company. From the vague description you have there I expected something about how to create websites.

Since I am very much a newbie I can offer advice from purely a 'reader' perspective. I liked the site very much. The content seemd solid and the storyline format kept me reading. The only suggestion i would make is to not make the pages so long. Other then that nice work.
I hope my site is 1/2 as good.

There is a bit of a horziontal scroll at 800x600, not to sure which part is causing it as it's a frontpage master piece (real badly nested tables). Think I found it, your first tag has a width of 900. you don't even need that tag.
Ideally if you are able to use another editor you would be better off - doing yourself and the search engines a favor.
You need to use more of the avaible window space as already suggested.
Your internal pages don't have links to other sections, they have links to everything else but them. Again you need to make better use of space, things like leftmargin="65" is a waste.
The internal pages are a lot better code wise but you do have a lot of html errors in there. Add a DOC tag and run it through the validator at w3c.org if you have problems with the errors start up a new thread and we can help you (the trick is only do the top 2-4 at a time)
Bit of fine tuning you should have it.

I would have to agree with Meg, You need to made your table wider.. Also center your logo and change your adsence so it matches the white backround of your site. Everything else looks good, it's a nice simple site and good luck with it.

Hi
First off I love the content of the site - very very interesting indeed.
I would have to agree with others about the frontpage it does look a little strange at the position it is at.
Now this is just personal opinion but I dont like the ad for the hosting company on the front page it just doesnt seem to fit in with the genre of the site - slightly related (and I have this problem on my own site) is the fact that not all of your adsense ads are targetted on your subject matter. I would imagine if the ads were related to your content you would possibly get a decent click rate but as I say I have this problem on my own site so I cant help with a solution for that.
But all in all I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to your site - Well Done!!

I like the content but have a couple suggestions to make.
When someone comes to the site for the very first time its kind of like "hmmm where do I go"
I think your front page should explain better what the purpose of the site is. At first glance it looks like a site thats going to be selling models or something like that. You also really should set up a navigation section, and widen the page.
Im just throwing this out there, but I think it would look really cool and fitting if the website was set up like a secret document kind of look. Like this

Thats just my opinion

I like the site, interesting. The only thing I would comment on is there seems to be too much white space around your logo. Also, the links on top appear out of place. Maybe you could try moving those ads somewhere else on your site and create a nice header. You could make your logo smaller and incorporate it into the header. Then, you could shift the rest of the homepage data up. I think this would make a better first impression to visitors. Also, I agree the site looks alittle narrow. Overall, I really enjoyed my visit.

I also like the content and I think the site delivers what it is supposed to. You may want to consider aligning the site to the left or center though as others stated there is too much white space up at the top, left and right. Also regarding the ads, maybe you may want to consider placing the ad up the top and google links at the bottom which may provide a better clickthrough rate for you. In any case,
Best of Luck !

I think theres too much whitespace. Other than that its ok. I can navigate easily and content is easy to find. Your logo tells me what the site is about instantly. I think the top menu could be improved to make itself more clearer.

As a newbie my comments are limited but I did find that the page could be wider and as mentioned theres a lot of white background which I think would look nice coloured but not too heavy. I did like the images they fitted the subject.
As a cockney kid with the same war time memories I like the site content and have bookmarked it for future reference.
Good luck.

I think that you could center your content, it makes page looks a bit nicer. I think that you could frame the content with a visible border. And some background image (small, with large alpha) would be nice, loading time on 56k modem is very good.

The layout looks nice. Good site for educational purposes. Easy to use menu as well as nice images. Good work
Only advice I can give you is to add a little bit more color. I don't mind the layout as it is right now, but Im sure you could figure out how to 'spruce' it up a bit.

I like the idea. It's totally niche. I've never seen anything like it before, it's got great potential for anyone who lived through the war.
