Hello,

I have just launched my new site for my business. Take a look, tell me what you think. It's still an island and still needs some content but I would appreciate any feedback you may have. http://www.jagdesign.ca/

Thanks,

Looks good but.........Smiling

Those black border thingies that go around the text area, look funny being seperated like that.

And the itty bitty blue box on the pages brings down the visuals of the site a tad, its to flat looking and takes away from what you have. Its a small thing, but thought I would comment on that.

Otherwise, lookin good.

Hey, thats looking mighty fine.

A couple of things thou, the line under 'welcome' is maybe a little to sharp compared to the rest of the images, and is the inner curve ment to look likes its two? nice effect if it is.

The idea of keeping the content on the index short is good but think sending people off to another page for a few more lines is a bit much, maybe make your layout a bit wider (at least 700) and keep it all on one page, also try use a font like verdana.

on your protfolio page there is two vertical lines, one in front of the welcome and one at the bottom, on the bottom right curve on netscape4.7,
Looking at your code i found one empty td cell at the top, always use a in empty td cells, only had a quick look and didnt see a missing one at the bottom but your td cells contents arent on the same lines as the td, so this could be causing the gaps

contents <-bad

contents <- good

<- bad
  <- good

Your about page looks very similar to your index page, maybe highlight your link, or add the word of the page to the top or something, at first I wasnt sure if i was there or not until i saw the address bar.

Looks awesome, keep em coming Smiling

Well, I think that is just cute as a button and very original too.

Not too sure if I like the colors but they do grow on you. I think the personality of the site is what makes it. I agree with Busy on not sending people to another page that isn't on the menu. That can be a bit confusing and might cause people to loose where they are at....unless they have common Internet sense. (which most people looking for web designer won't have)

I think that the background of the big letter beginning the first paragraphs should be white. The little blue box at the top right needs a border. It looks unfinished.

Have you experimented with another color background beside black? Not sure what I would use but the black and blue don't really compliment each other.

You have done an excellent job with this site. Love the way your menu slides in.Wink

I use Netscape 4.

And the page looks - terrible Smiling Somethings goes wrong, maybe it's that shockwave... But I can see your logo and it looks good.

OVerall it looks great - very innovative. Kind of has an old style cinnematic look to me (reminds me of old movies).

Firstly, what's with the feet? They seem odd and the lettering for "JAG" looks familiar to me for some reason. The black curves there in the semi-background - I'm thinking that they should just both fit together instead of breaking apart like that. Fancy first letter graphics - lose them or change them. Would look okay without the black background. Mouseover graphics aren't quite right... don't have a better idea though.

Portfolio page isn't lining up in my browser. All the other ones seem fine.

Change all your fonts to a sans-serif like verdana. It will look much better.

Thanks all for the feedback. No matter how much you think you've nailed down the details of your page, you guys/gals always seem to point things out.

I obviously still have some work to do. Platform compatability sounds like my largest problem from the response I received.

I am having trouble finding Netscape 4.7*....does anyone know where I could download that version? I always have problems with Netscape's 4.* series. I've checked the netscape site and couldn't find it.

I like the font suggestion, Megan and I probably should spruce up the blue box a bit.

As for the page width that was mentioned, I'm building a solution using dhtml to overcome these issues.

Yes, I didn't want the border to be joined and finally, I like my feet:)

Thanks all for the feedback it's a great help!

You can't download 4.7x as a stand-alone, you have to get the whole communicator package. If you just want Navigator the latest version you can get is 4.08.

I once saw a site that had several versions of netscape, but forgot to bookmark it and have lost it Sad

I did find this site doing a quick search for 4.7 thou http://download.cnet.com/downloads/1,10150,0-10013-103-0-1-7,00.html?qt=bbbrowser&cn=Internet&ca=10013&SWLink=false?tag=rltlk

If I find any others in my travels I'll post the url

Hmmm, interesting site.

Here are some changes to consider:

  • Logo and Layout - What is up with the feet? It looks like one of the shapes that Photoshop has. They really detract from the site since they don't really have much meaning. I still can't believe that nobody, even Megan, mentioned the bold text. I think that it would be better and more readable without the bold. There is no Home link, it is About. This may be confusing to some people. The page that you start on should be called Home. Page title is pagedonewithslices.
  • Code - the code is fairly clean. Maybe replace some of those font tags. There were a couple of references to border=0 in tags.
  • Little things - this statement:

Quote: Employing redundancy at every stage is just one of many rules that I set for myself during a page's development. Following small rules like this can often make a world of difference in the completion time of a project.

It is kind of ambiguous and you are telling people how easy it is to make changes. You should tell them that it is very difficult to do because it makes you look more like a genius.

Quote: Once a site has been built and is fully functional, no one will come and visit your new tool unless you tell people it is there.

I would rewrite this, as it sounds funny with people coming to your tool.

Quote: Creits will be added once JAG Design has been fully completed.

    Speling arrow.

    Quote: (519)473-7680

I would add a space after the parentheses.

Overall the design looks good, just need to fix some of the little things.

I would try Netscape's site here for older versions of NS.

Netscape to test your website for compatibility. Not everybody in the world uses IE.

There is a version 6 of NS now you know Smiling 6.2 is out now actually. If you like Netscape that's the way to go.

If you go through the link I posted you can get to a lot of previous versions of NS - go Communicator > choose your language > choose your OS > previous versions. There's a ton in there.

The only thing I would change is the Main text on the white background. If you use verdana text it will read much easier for your viewers. All in all your site has a very nice touch. Only 1 other thing, Add some meta tags...lol Good Job.

-Mark 1) thanks for saving me the time to respond to gavin.
2) thanks for the link, that's exactly what I was looking for! Up to now I could only find upto 4.61 in the 4.* releases.
3)to my shagrin(sp?) I realized I was missing 'home' when I was almost completely finished...I'll have to ad that before I link up the site

-Megan, yup I know, I use it to test, thanks for the link too

-busy, thanks for the link

-1st, all in good time

Thanks

A couple of thoughts from my corner Wink

The bottom of the page looks copped off to me, maybe extend the beigey colour down a wee bit more so that you see the whole of the shadow.

To me the black border should go on the right side as well, otherwise it looks unfinished and the right side with the thin strip of lines doesn't blend in. (there is a smudgy black dot about half an inch up from the bottom curve on the right, very picky I know but it bugged me!!)

You have Welcome on every page. Maybe change this to be the name of the page you are on - Portfolio, Resources etc.

The blue box on each page (webmasters/Tired of learning) looks odd to me, I would loose that.

Change the font, titles to be meaning full & add meta tags and it'll be very good.
