Bonjour!

It's been a long labour, but today I launched my latest project, fomsc.ca. It is a students' council website accessible to students, faculty, and affiliates of my university, as well as the general public. There is the occasional section with filler content, but everything else should be in place.

I ask for constructive criticism to improve the site both visually in in regards to useability. The content is set by powers over myself, but the organization is my own responsibility. Yes, I know it's very purple, but it's the school colour. I think I did it not too offensively...

Any and all help would be welcome. Fire away! Smiling

I like it. It is very clean and proffessional. Just one minor point - the text on the top banner would look better white - it is not instantly obvious where you must click currently!

Ok its time to fix that Opera Problem...
Now, remember we fixed that size issue with the scroller at the left?
I told you before that before we fixed that, it already has a problem displaying in opera...
Even now that we fixed the alignment problem, the display problem isnt still fixed for opera... (ignore this incase you visitors usually use IE or Mozilla/Netscape)

I like your site, It reaches the audience to be involved and have a connection with the site, especially if im from that school... I know you put random images to show at the top but i slows down the page load, (dont matter if most visitors are broadband users)... Purple is associated with royalty and school spirit... Thats the vibe im getting here...

I like the scheme of fonts you are displaying, but I think it may be better for "ease of use" if you were to enhance the menubar a little as hinted by 02bunced.

Working from simply the fonts that I see you use, it may be that a lighter color is the best way around attracting attention to the menubar. The only other idea that I had was to use the image font from the site logo (the one saying "the don wright faculty of music students' council" and possibly hange both the menubar and footer-bar to that (requiring the creation of images)

But on that note...KISS...so I really kinda like what you have... Cool

ooooo just had an idea: maybe heavier separations between menu items???... something to ponder

02bunced/jjinno: Would switching the colours of the menu and the dropdowns solve the problem? As in, make the bar and highlights the light purple while having the dropdown backgrounds the darker purple? My original intention was div buttons of sort (but then I got sick of working on the template and moved on!).

I think for now I'll try switching the font to century gothic (the one in the header) And extending the separating lines the full height of the bar. Do you think that might do it? I'll experiment in the coming days...

demonhale: I think I'll download opera when I have time off next week and figure that out. Thanks!

So far I got by fairly unscathed... I'm surprised. Shocked Merci muchly.

You have a very nice and clean site there, although, my biggest complaint would have to be the small text. Why must the text be so small? It's almost unreadable!

From what I gather, your target audience for this site are adults, to me, it makes sence to make the text smaller so that they can actually read the text. As you may or may not know, as one grows older, their eyesight gets worse... so... you might want to try increase it.

I noticed when I went to other pages and wanted to get back to the homepage, I tend to click on the main logo. This, I find, is a common habit for a lot of surfers out there, so consider putting a link back to the homepage for the header logo.

Renegade: Perhaps your resolution is a tad high for your eyesight? My font size is a fairly standard size, though smaller than sites like google. And no, this site is primarily for students - it's a students' council and the majority of viewers are ages 17-25... so I think it's alright. Smiling I'll definitely implement the logo link to home aspect - I can't believe I didn't think of that! Thank you.
