Hello all!

I am in the process of making my first website. I am creating this website for my brother, and our family racing team. I have created three "designs" and I would love any advice or opinions about which design is best, or what you would change! Thanks in advance for taking the time to look at them! There's no content yet, just the background and some buttons..

I also wanted to add this 'opener' to whichever design I decide to go with...

It needs a little work.. It takes forever to load the rollover image..

Anyway, thanks again! I appreaciate any and all constructive criticism, I know I have a lot to learn still!
Lori.

Well, your site has good graphics and layout, but there are a couple of things you'll want to do. First, your domain name is too long for a user to spell so I would suggest something shorter (Email me if you'd like me to set you up with vdmotors.tk for free) and I would shorten the content area to end right after that last button, no extra space. I personally like Loriindex.htm's header graphic better. Looks like your site is off to a great start, now give us some racing news in red text.

I think the first one is the best. The last one is too dark & dingy looking and the middle one is a little too dated looking with all the bevels. You will need to fix the text on the buttons and the URL under the logo so its more legible. Otherwise there's not a whole lot to say. The graphics aren't bad for a first attempt. I like the way you've set the portrait on top of the car in the background.

The opener page is okay. Normally I think those sorts of pages are useless and annoying but in this case it could be okay. Put the logo text under the car and maybe a little bit of text to explain what this is. Definitely lose the mouseover bit (I didn't notice that at first). Keep it simple Smiling

Thanks Guys! I really, really appreciate all the info!! I am waiting to hear back from my family about which one they like too.

Thanks again! Smiling

Oh, I should add, the portrait in the first one is not my brother. It's Dale Earnhardt Jr. (NASCAR). I still need to get a good photo of my bro! Smiling

Not bad, especially for a first. Everything seemed up-to-par for what your site's about, but I'd have to say I like the first best.

What'd you make it with? By hand, or with something wizzy?

It took me a while to realize what you meant by 'wizzy'! I think that goes to show how new I am!! Smiling I used Photoshop and Dreamweaver MX. I am not much of a coder and I know thats a bad thing. Sad

Thanks for the compliment!

Good graph. I would not use the full screen background color of the 1st one, and may increase the font size of the menu labels for easier reading.

Thanks again all! I have decided to go ahead with the first one, after tweaking it a little bit using everyone's advice! My family really wanted a .com address, and we didn't want to abbreviate our last name so even though it is long, we are going to stick with it.
I'll get some content up there and then let you all take another peek!
Thanks again for all the help!
Lori.

I prefer the first one too. I just got my race license two weeks ago, maybe you could do a shrine website to me Wink

I would go with number 3. It loads quicker.

Hey guys! I have kind of put the website on the shelf for a while, but I finally have some content up there so I thought you might like to take another peek!

I tweaked a few things but I am sure that some things still need improvement! I want to get this site actually "up" relatively quickly since the new season starts in a few months so I have to get cracking! I also have no idea yet how to use .asp or.php, and to be honest I don't know how to tell if our web host supports .asp, so I have a lot of reading still to do!

Anyway, your comments are appreciated!! Also, I am trying to get the pages to validate, but so far only the 'home' page does...Smiling

you domain name is definitely just too long...
First one is very good, except for the background... Oh on the opener (but I don't think you need one) put some text... Other stuff is nice...

Bored of that uncustomized homepage when you start your browser? CHeck out www.homepaged.tk and create your homepage!

Go direct to 1. Don't need no doorway page for a small site. the first one looks good.
