Please critique: http://www.goodbookmarks.com/design/design.html

I've been trying to center the top banner but have failed, can some HTML experts here tell me how?

I'm thinking of featuring something 'off-topic' (not related to Computers & Internet) every week to provide some entertainment and humor to my visitors. Maybe something like, UFOs, Ghosts...

FYI...I got a scripting error on loading your home page .

But I submitted my site, too .

Jackchen,

Why don't you center your main table on the page? Spread some of that empty space around. It looks cramped with all of the content on the left side of the page.

Your logoo is getting better. Why don't you make the "G" llarger than the 'frame' it is in now and then use it as the "G" in Goodbookmarks?

Add some CSS so those dull blue links change when I mouseover them.

I like the color scheme. Looks good.

Alright, first off, it looks great. It's a bit too texty for me--but I'm a graphics designer who loves to make intricate images.

About the table, you've currently got it set at a 44% width, you need to bump it up to around 80%, or whatever yo perfer, for that whole 'center' thing to go through.

1) I've said this about 20 times, so this time maybe you'll listen: GET RID OF HOW THE BANNER PART CUTS INTO THE SIDE MENU!!! PLEASE!!! IT WOULD LOOK MUCH BETTER!!!

2) Once you do that, you can put the "G" logo up at the top of the menu, next to the new and improved banner part. Right now it looks really weird with nothing up there.

3) The black line between the banner are and the navigation is 2 pixels thick, compared to the 1 pixel width of all the other lines. I'd change it to one pixel in width.

4) I don't like the header colors on the side menu. I think the site has enough colors. I'd make them all that blue that you have for the banner area. That would look much better.

5) I like what you've done with the side menu, but what happened to the news? I think you have room to display the top 3 computer headlines of the day. That would be perfect.

Overall, with the changes above, I think your site would look sharp...

I have disagreed with Justin's no. 1 about 20 times That space beside the blue arrow is just begging for a logo - the triangluar arrow shape will do a good job of drawing the eye to the logo and helping people to remember your site.

DO you remember my post about content organization? I think this directory would be a lot more useful if all that was sorted into broad categores like Entertainment (music, games, humour etc.), Your COmputer (Software, desktop customization), Your Website (self explanitory), High Tech etc... It would just make it a lot easier for differnet types of visitors to find what they're looking for.

I don't like the layout of the top sites thing either. As I have also said before, you still need to get a lot more content on here - certain categories that I would find important aren't here at all (ie. Graphics Tutorials, HTML, Javascript...). In most cases you only have a couple of links under each category - that isn't going to get you repeat visitors.

Oh, and I also think it would be nice if you didn't have to go back to the home page to visit another category.

I've done some minor changes at: http://www.goodbookmarks.com/design/design.html

Can someone tell me how to center the banner on top vertically?

And what about the off-topic thing? I would like to write an off-topic article every week to provide some entertainment to my visitors, like ESP etc...

For the banner alignment question: try adding valign="center" to center it in the middle of the table cell.

Ok, maybe I wasn't clear enough. I don't think I was. Make the logo up in the top left corner big (fill the whole space), and keep a smaller version for next to the GoodBookmarks logo.

Finally- on the side menu I like the color of the headers better now, but I don't like the grey too much. Why not just make that part yellow?

It's looking good.

The design looks pretty good, Jack -- definitely an improvement from the last one. Also, Jason -- the correct code for vertical alignment is to add valign="middle" to the (TD).

Hi,
I think it looks very good! Very professional. All I can suggest is on the little logo of the left, put a little catch line! It just looks a bit empty.

Apart for that it's great!
Oh. Maybe bring the right of the back ground in a bit so it meets nearer the table!

Neil

The new design is now online.

On the categories pages, I've placed a 468x60 HitBox banner at the bottom, is it making my design uglier?

I'm not the most experienced person here by any means, but on the home page I think it looks just fine. On your category pages, though, I think you need a bit more spacing between the content and the bottom banner. Looks a bit crowded. Move it down and it'll look much better.

Kristen, waiting for my link on your site to provide me with a flood of visitors...
