Feedback needed

It looks good, only the cat pusing the copier should be slown down a little, gets a little distracting

Alright, I'm feeling brutally honest today so if you don't want to hear it, stop reading.

1. Get a colour scheme. Bright red and pale green do not match. Yellow and BLack make it worse. THen you've got that cream colour behind the logo, which doesn't stand out quite enough from the white background. Then, on the other pages, you've got pale blue, which also clashes with red, and yellow with maroon!

2. Logo - which one is the real logo? The big block cap letters on the left side or the one with the square page thing on the right? That one might not be bad if it didn't look so faded.

3. Photos - get some better photos. Those look like they were scanned out of a brochure that was printed in 1962.

4. Never make your links plain black text. It makes it difficult for people to recognize them as links.

If you client absolutely wants the marquees than there isn't anything you can do - but I would try to get rid of them. They are extremely distracting. Especially when it's a short page and I can see the top and bottom marquee at the same time.

I agree completely with Megan about the colors and the logo.

If you have to use those old photos - then try to go with that whole look for your site. Maybe use marroon and white or a dark green or blue and white. Those kind of colors will go well with those old looking photos. The bright colors just don't go with them.

1)Color scheme was the client's choice as the MD hates blue(dark & pale) which I initially proposed that was used for the other pages but the funny thing is.. he seems to like the marguees/animation. I will be changing the colours for the other pages to the main page colour but maybe convince him to tone down or suggest other colour that is more appropriate.

2)The Logo was scanned from their company's Letterheads, so I don't want to change it, the actual logo is of course on the right.

3)Yes, the photos was scanned from a catalog which they gave it to me, they were not happy with the results and have agreed that I take some better photos and I will be using my digital camera to take some photo at their
premises soon.

4)I agree, it should be the default(blue) and will be changing it which should not be a problem.

Yes, as you suggested it's a good idea using the marroon/white or darkgreen/white but blue is definitely out the window as the MD hates it and have mentioned to me that it's not his favourite colour. I will try to use it as see how it works out and their reaction to it.

Funny, the MD likes the animation/marquees???

Thanks a lot Brooke for giving me some insights on colours to blend with the old looking photos.

Goodness, do you know how many clients that I have had that I could not talk out of animations, bad graphics, icons etc? I couldn't count them all.

The good news is that many times they outgrow it. I have had a client for 3 years and over that time he has slowly outgrown those things. Now his site is much cleaner and more professional looking.

Let's face it, the client is our bread and butter and we do what they want!

Thanks for that refreshing quote, I thought I was on the wrong track, now I know that I wasn't.

Well, I also think that it's the job of the designer to steer the client in the right direction. They're hiring you for a reason - you're supposed to be the design expert. Of course, if you try to talk them out of something and they still insist there's not much you can do.

Exactly my point. I agree that as the designer you want to inform your clients the best you can about what's good and what's not so good. But if they insist, then don't argue, and just get it done their way!
