OK, so it's nothing special, but I'm going a completely different direction with this one...The code is rough, its straight from Dreamweaver4, so bear with me =). Let me know if you have any viewing probs in different browsers...

Thanks in advance!

Dog slow on a 33.6. The shades of yellow and gold you are using don't offer enough contrast.

>>Best viewed with IE at 640x480x16 or better.<<

Whoa, 640x480 is refreshing, but you cause someone with that resolution (or even 800x600) to have to scroll vertically. Chop out most of the sky on the second pic and you might be in the ballpark. That image is 125K, way too heavy.

There are mouseover links in the top image but they don't work in either NS4.6 or IE4.0 on a Mac, so I'm locked out of your site.

It was only by accident that I found the links on the top picture - even though I know it says navigation above it, I thought that's where the navigation would be going!

What is the site about? Will people know to click around the picture?

Personally I think it looks a bit naff at even 800*600 as you get the top picture ok then the top half of the bottom one! Not a good layout. Then there's the horizontal scroll bar which seems to be caused by a layer next to the last table???

Don't tell people what it is best viewed with - especially as it isn't good viewed at that size!!

I don't think the yellow & orange go, too similar and look as if they should be the same colour but aren't. I also don't like black backgrounds and at larger sizes there is a lot of black!

I actually really like the colours here. The yellow and blue from the photos contrast wonderfully and the black gives a nice background to it all. I don't think this would look as good on white, because the white background would sort of overpower the white in the photos and they wouldn't stand out as much. I do agree, however, that the orange should be replaced with the yellow since they are so similar.

I do think, however, that you should try to fit this all above the fold, at least at 1024, better if you can do that at 8x6. This may require some rearranging but overall I think it would be worth it.

As for the navigation, that is kind of a cute idea, but you should definitely provide a text-only option for those who can't figure it out. I also agree that more should be said here to explain the purpose of the site.

I agree too about the "best viewed with" thing - I'm using NS 6.1 at 1024 and it looks fine to me except the weather information is pushed out off the edge of the photo a bit. Putting that on there just tells me that you're too lazy to check your site in different browsers.

I LOVE IT!

You guys give awesome input...OK...I'm going to chop the second pic, and fix the layer problem to alleviate the hor. scroll. I'll also add some text links at the bottom. The site is just a personal website for me and my family. I'm still trying to figure out a way to incorporate the purpose of the site on the index page, we'll see... The links don't work yet, so that explains why gizmoid can't get anywhere. As far as the IE only thing, well, I just haven't had time yet to check it out in all the browsers, so I knew it looked OK in IE, so I threw that in there. I doubt it'll be there when it goes live. Thanks for the input, and I'll give it a go. I only do this for a hobby, so I don't have most of the "skills" that you guys do. Just playin around! Thanks!

Yeah that's got rid of the scroll bar. Seeing part of the bottom picture at 800*600 then having to scroll down to see the rest is spoiling it for me though. Don't know what to suggest about that, hmmmm

Took ages to load, and when it finally did it locked up Netscape 6

now viewing with Net 4.7 -
you have that stupid status message, where do the links go? what are the links? I want to see where I'm going, do you drive blind? then why surf blind?
If i was surfing and found this site, I'd turn around and leave, wouldnt even bother searching for a way around.

You have the links at the bottom which is really good but I think you need them up the top as well, the mountain map is a nice touch but isnt working, apart from the image size there is no direction.
If you got the image sizes right down in size you could add mouseovers - mouseover the red dots and a name of that dot (link)comes up.

none of the links work, is it just this page or is there more? the red dots show "javascript:;" on the staus bar (on Net 4.7) and the links at the bottom take me to the top of the page. no one else has mentioned other pages so i guess this is it.

The idea (subject) is there just have to fine tune it abit, this is the south pole? is the base camp alt no. 2 or 7? or even no. 1, you should maybe order the text links with the red dots

if you dont have a good graphic cruncher (cant spell optimiser lol), here is one of the many out there (this is a free on web site one) http://www.spinwave.com/
