Era of War layout -- Opionions

Just a few comments:

I think the blue link colour should be a few shades lighter. I also dont like the red mouseover, but thats just my opinion.

On the left menu where you have the buttons, I dont like it how they are on the silver verticle line. It would be better if they were right next to it instead of on top.

You've chosen a nice and easy to read font, and I like white on black, it's easy for me to read.

In my opinion that background could just be an image up the top instead of a background. But that is totally up to you.

I'm getting a couple errors on the page- under the "news" header I get:
Warning: Failed opening 'news.txt' for inclusion (include_path='./:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/bboyera/eracreations-www/eraofwar/sources/news.php on line 5

And on the lefthand menu, the images are overlapping the silver bar.

You do have a nice header, though, so I think once you fix those two things the site won't be bad at all.

That error is only there because I haven't installed the news script yet. And I can't seem to fix the overlapping images problem. Any suggestions?

What images are overlapping? Or have you solved that problem?? I agree with the colour issue of the links, far too hard to read in blue on black.

Agree with what has been said above. One major problem I'm seeing is distortion in text size for your navbar headers. They all seem to be a slightly different size and proportion and some of the letters seem to be bumping into each other - that should be kept consistent.

I do like your header graphic but I feel that there's a little too much overlapping going on here. I would probably make some of those more opaque. I would also try to find a way to integrate the text better with the graphic, rather than having it cut out at the top like that.

I'm working on a new layout for it. I've got some ideas and wanted to know if they were good.

1. The Top Banner

On the far left will be the main good guy. On the far right will be the main bad guy. In the middle will be the words "Era of War". In the same spot will be a moon and a picture of one of characters. This picture will be randomized for every page view.

2. The Menu

I'm changing the menu to give it a fantasy look. But I don't know which colors to use. What should I use?

Hard to tell what the top banner would look like but I'd say be careful not to make it so big that it overpowers everything else. As for colours again it's hard to say, tie it in with colours from the banner.

I counldn't get the banner the way I wanted it so I kept the old one. Here is a screenshot of my new layout.

Not crazy about the fonts in the new one for the menu. They look a bit big and gaudy. The blue links on blue background are hard to read. I know it's just a screenshot but that will be hard to read online as well. The lined background doesn't fit IMO. I would stick to a black background.

The smaller image at the top looks better but I wouldn't add the distored images on the right that aren't on the first one. Can't tell what they are and the right side of it just looks sorta like a blob. Maybe leave the right side of the top image black and add some text (graphic) there.

Keep working on it....it will come together. I know I go through bunches of layouts and designs before I am satisified with one. Just remember that big isn't always better.

Those people to the right have also been there. On the old layout we made it so that people with different resolutions would see different parts of the banner. Someone with 1280 x 1024 would see the whole banner.

I'm working on fixing the colors and the menu images.
