Please visit robnettcpa.com and be honest? This is my first ever site. I designed it to be a printed brochure for our company. I'm especially concerned with download times and want to know your connection method/speed and browser type & version. Thanks.

Later I have to add interactivity (in the form of client surveys) so if anyone knows of any software that I can add to create surveys for customers I'd be ever so greatful.

Also VPN is coming-design help!?

first up get rid of that tune, whatever it is meant to be, eeek, quality is super bad.

the word "directory" on the graphic goes under the main one.

loads ok, about 30 sec and displays the same on IE 5, Netscape 4.7 & 6
the sound loads with the page except in Netscape 4.7, it has to load before playing.

there is a lot of blank space above and below which makes the page look longer than it actually is. (index page)

the clock takes a lot away from the professional look, we all have (i think) a clock on the bottom right tool bar, a clock on the web page isnt needed - just because you can doesnt mean you should ...

you use a black background on the index then the rest are white, keep to one color as two confuses people cause it looks like you've gone to another site. oops another page has a pink background

the overview and usefull tools pages have the words down the side under the side links, looks like a mistake or bad alignment.
sitemap has sitemap repeated over at the top - to much
if you click the audit services from the index page, the audit page at the top says "back to services", which goes to the overview page

tax calendar and financial calculator have the same page, but you have seperate links

Publications has no icon top left in net 6, only has the word library repeated under the side links, netscape 4.7 and IE has the word repeated, a very messy graphic on that which makes the links unreadable - looks like a bar code?

if this is your first site then wow, i can see you going far, you've done well

Welcome jan blecha,

We do ask that before we critique your site that you help others out and give your opinions to at least three other sites in this forum. This will not only help others but will help you in seeing what other sites are acheiving and the advise given to them maybe of use to yourself.

That being said I think Busy has give a pretty good critique already, I would just add that you have a huge horizonatl scroll bar no matter what size screen you look at it. It must go! I don't know what relevance the words are on the right but it just looks awful.

Very good for a first site though Smiling

I agree with Busy completely. I would, however, shorten the navigation to 6-7 links - it's just too long right now.

I would also think about those buttons on the homepage - they just seem a bit outdated.

That's all for now!

I agree with many of the comments already made, especially about it being exceptional for a first effort.

With NS 4.6 on a Mac, it does not display properly. I think this particular build of NS has problems with certain aspects of CSS.

On to IE 4.0, where things seem to be working better. First thing I noticed is that the page is titled "Home". Not very descriptive if someone should bookmark it. Also, some search engines put extra weight on page titles.

I'm curious as to what the "PC" stands for. I know what a CPA is, but am not familar with what the PC in the company name stands for.

The huge horizontal scroll... might **this** be causing it?

(DIV ID="TXTOBJ7D0C31B22E172121" STYLE="position:absolute; top:643px; left: **1265px**

(TABLE BORDER=0 CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 WIDTH=**91**) Did you mean to say **91%** here?

(DIV CLASS="parastyle1")
A(BR)
F(BR)
u(BR)
l(BR)
l(BR) etc., etc.

I didn't even see this text at first because it is way over to the right and at the bottom. Perhaps another CSS issue with this particular version of IE? Or because it's several screens worth of scrolling to the right?

Nice montage, though it's a bit hefty at 61K, at least on a lowly 33.6. I don't quite understand the relevancy of the state capitol or the marching band to a CPA site, though.

I would tighten up the front page so that everything fits into one screen at 800x600 and centers for those using a higher resolution. I would also consider doing away with the black background. It's just too dark and doesn't look appropriate for a CPA firm, IMO.

Not only is the clock unnecessary, it's not working right for me. The seconds never change, though the minutes do. I believe the time difference between L.A. and Austin is only 2 hours, but it's showing an 8 hour difference.

Navigation: Those words don't appear to be links. But wait, the cursor turn into a hand *between* the words, and the status bar says "Link: javascript://" and then "Applet Au Player Started." (I don't have any plug-ins installed in IE.)

Oh, now I get it, you want me to click those buttons instead of the words? Yeah, I think I'd ditch them and just use the text links.

Site Map - I'm getting a lot of text overlapping, as if the line spacing is too tight for the font size. I'd get rid of that little divider with the peeping eyes, doesn't look really professional to me.

Whereas for Site Map the mouse worked anywhere over the button, with About Us I had to move it to the very bottom of the button before it worked.

On many of the interior pages, the nav text is not consistently aligned. Some seem indented. You've also used inconsistent widths for the nav bar and different backgrounds for them. Stick with the same thing throughout. This helps give the visitor a sense of order and where they are in the scheme of things. Also, make the page heads consistent.

The Search&Links page lacks site navigation, forcing the visitor to use their browser's "back" button.

On the Contact page I wouldn't use gifs for email links. If someone prints out the page, they don't have a clue what the email address is. Also, I'm not sure if mailto: links work in something like WebTV, so you want them to be able to *see* the email address to write it down if needed.

Be sure to take advantage of "alt" tags to describe all of your graphics. This is a good way to reinforce keywords for search engine optimization. For example, instead of "alt=logo.jpg" use something like "alt=logo of (COMPANY NAME), a full-service CPA firm serving the tax, audit and accounting needs of Austin, Texas." It won't show on the page, but will get indexed.

Overall, I'd say you're off to a great start!

Great for a first site, but lots of work can be done.

I pretty much agree with all of the comments allready said.

I like the homepage but NOT THE GREEN buttons, they just look too standrad and unprofessional. Maybe dark blue smaller bullets would be better. All pages should have the same color background. I don;t like all the words that overlap with the title of the page on every page. Like when you click publications, to the top of the page near the title, it says information too many times. On the same page it says library on the left side and is almost impossible to read with the graphic behind it. Good luck.
