Divinglore - Please Review.
Hi all,
Just joined the forum. I'm new to the web designing scene.
I'm self taught in many respects and aquired knowledge from associates and helpful sites.
Coded the site in Dreamweaver.
Its not finished yet but I'm working feverishly to get it that way!
If you guys (and gals) can let me know what could be done to improve the site, any potential pitfalls I'm missing, it would be much appreciated.
S.W.

First of all I don't like your template. Your site looks like the sites back in the 90's Propably you should use a template from a template service like template monster.
About the content, I think that you shouldn't add pages to your index that have no content at all. For example if you go to http://www.divinglore.com/Genesis/Otherpages/GreeceRegion.htm you see the greek map, but no other info, just empty paragraphs (overview, dive sites)
I think you have a lot of work to do before starting up this site. Good luck. I hope I am not dissapointing you

Okay, Jeevsy I've commented three times on other folks websites.
First off. Nikolas, The template ain't changing overnight until I get a better option for laying out the main homepage. I am not a whiz kid at templates, and would probably screw up the whole site! I'll check the template monster though.
As it stands the site is a 'work in progress' an ongoing project, too much works gone into the pages just to change it on a whim. If I wait for the whole site to be finished before launching it It'll be into next year...
Hmmm it looks like something from the 90s you say? Well I've seen plenty similar in the 21st Century too, and I kinda like the retro feel!
I'm 50/50 on cutting out the pages to the countries as many people will want to click on their home country and if nothings there then its worse (in my eyes) than a page with their home flag and map but (as yet) unfinished text.
A revamp seems to be status Quo.... Yeah your right its not what I want to hear so disappointment all round !
Bzzt!

I hope you dont mind if i give you my penny's worth,
First of all i would slice the image of the world, it will take far to long to load up on a dial up connection,
Blue background and white text dont work mate, If you insist on using a blue background, then change the text to yellow, that works really well.
Last of all, Get rid of the table , looks out dated, if your using dreamweaver, click the table and inseart your background into the table.
Hope this helps,
Regards

What do you mean by 'slice' the image of the world?
I'm trying to work it out by saving on load-up time but almost every bit of that globe is taken up with hotspots already.
Okay so the white text doesn't work... will try some other colours but yellow? Arrgh. What about grey? Or Orange.
Tables outdated... Will regroove that too.
Thanks for the tips so far guys, keep them coming! Much appreciated!

Hello, Sonic_Wolf
...Hi, Everyone
Sonic_Wolf you should try to organize your layout a little bit better. Many of the elements you are trying to incorporate on your site seem to be bunched up. In addition, take out the "under construction" text. I always give this advice (which I stole from somewhere) "All good sites are always under construction."

James

I dont know what graphic package you are using!!!
I use fireworks because it works really well with dreamweaver,
In fireworks, all you do it open your image and slice it up and insert it into your layout table. Take a look at my site to see this in practice www.lcdirect.com Notice the top left ot the page with the little man , the top half is a normal image and the bottom half is the bottom of the original image but inserted as a backgrownd. This enables me to write over the top if needed in the future.
I hope this helped

I don't like the background image. Don't use them, use colours instead.
The navigation is booooooooooooring. Agian, use colours for your table, but grey and blue don't match. get rid of the borders on ur table too.
also, on your origins page, the images overlap the text a bit. This is becaues you are using divs to position your images. nIf you resize the screen, then the images stay in the same place and the rest of the page moves. try to avoid using divs to position images like that, believe me it never works.

"Don't use divs went the the cry!"
Only problem is how do I move my pictures about on the screen in dreamweaver, magic? With out using layers for the images they mess up all the text and either clunk about in the center, left, right or top!
Love to know how to get round this problems guys.
Keep 'em coming!

Okay webmasters, just re-vamped the site for some of the main pages,
background now neutral black, no pattern background anymore!
Navigation table, changed. It now is blue text along with the main body!
Does it look any better? I think it does!

Looking much better now,
still a problem with the world image,
I notice it is a png file, change it to gif or jpg.
That will speed the load up time.

Okay brothers, the world image is wierd one, In Fireworks it appears fine but online its not rounded!
Anyway I've changed it to the gif variant, so it should be okay now.
You know whats really twisting the noodle is?
Its the pop-up menus I'm working on for the world map, they don't line up on the image I've inserted them if it's in a layer! But if the image isn't in a layer it does work!
Strange is is not?

i like your site full on information, the only thing i don't like is that the site i black it could do with a bit more colour, the world map in the middle looks fine to me and the links are all ok,
Must say i would make the links on the left hand side a bit smaller because they take up far to much space on the page.
apart from that i like the site and sorry for the things i don't like.

Thanks to all those so far who've advised and guided me in the ways!
Websites been totally regrooved. Colours are a lot better now and the links look improved! Was totally blinded by the old pattern background and I'm glad you dudes snapped me out of it!
Still a lot of ground to cover content wise but the mothership is definately clear of the ground! Albeit only by a few yards!
Thanks again.
