take out all the html tags as well as the 'style' tags.

also using % for font size isnt wise, people who have their computer set to large font would see massive text at your setting, 70%, 200%

Nope, sorry to tell you this but your team have let you down, it doesnt work in Netscape 4.7, just a blank, black screen, but the pop up works

and the css file still isnt there, if you "borrowed" this coding from the supercars site, "borrow" the css file as well

team have reported that the site is compatiable with the following : Internet Exlorer 5.5 & 6.0, Netscape 4.0 & Above Versions (ALL Other Browsers have not been tested please tell if u are using a different browser and view our site!

webmasters note: other versions of internet have not been tested wither these are the ones that have been tested and we know work!

Very well put Busy. I agree, keep it simple, clean looking, easy to navigate with a clear understanding of what the site is about from the start.

These other people in your team, are they the same age as you?

age is only a number, I'm one of the oldest here, and i'm only in my 30's

OK, get whatever you use to make a web page, be it frontpage, Dreamweaver, notepad or whatever
Make a no thrills version of how youd like your site to be like, (use white background) make up your tables, align things (dont center text), you dont even need any graphics, just add the graphics code with the width, height and alt tags to get the general layout sorted

Once you have the general idea sorted, make a .css file (either include as a seperate page or add the coding between your head tags) make your links, text size, color etc with style sheets, add the class=??? to the none links, as links has their own universal tag. (a:link, a:visited etc)

once you have it looking good, add some color to tables, graphics etc but remember to keep an eye on all the file sizes, try keep it under 50kb.

The version 4 browsers wont show style sheet, layers etc so try keep the important parts simple, people over rate simple, simple is clean, clean is good.

Content is king, naviagation is second, image is there somewhere lol

you have things on your index like, all members of dfi, updates, member of the month who cares about these, they wont bring people back, if you must have them make them a small part of the site, even on another page, the updates could stay but only if its important stuff viewers need to see, your problems, as mentioned arent important.

I dont even know what your site is about, all the links on the left are girlie pictures with the top link about cd covers, wheres the "The Next Genaration In Technical Help & Technology" (and i'm sure genaration isnt spelt like that)

If thats your selling point them your content should reflect that, the pictures and cd covers are side lines, move them to another page. you dont need the date, we all have clocks on our computers, you dont need your url, we all have it on the title bar

Mostly just the missing tags and order of them, also replace the onmouseovers, use a:hover in a stylesheet instead.

as for the banner, A wise man once said, "Tell me and I forget. Show me and I remember. Involve me and I learn."

So unless someone offers to make you one, you may have to do it yourself, you could try pay someone but you're still not learning.

I think most of the guys and gals on here are professionals, do it for a living (not me, I'm just the tea boy ) and volunteer their knowledge and advice for free, If I was you I'd take advantage of what you can learn from them, try make a new banner/page whatever, if it has faults we will try help you fix em, if they work and get the job/message across then we'll pat you on the back.

But if you just want to buy banners/layouts, well some of the folks can help you out there as well.

I lookd at your source code (IE version) and noticed a few mistakes, missing end tags, missing # off the rgb color tags etc, so ran your site thru validator.w3.org but couldnt display results as to many errors, so used netmechanic.com and they gave me this:

its only the free trail so only tested the first 25 links but I did notice a few 404's while it was going thru the others.

Once you fix these errors you shouldnt need to make separte pages for each browser.

Your Netscape link is 404 error in Netscape 6, nothing in Netscape 4.7, looking at your source code the "else" link should be index2.htm, that link works in Net 6 but not a bit like whats in IE, but Net 4.7 is still nothing.

On Net 4.7 and 6 the annoying status bar message works:

"Welcome To D.F.I., The Next Genaration In Technical Help & Technology! O Yea Lets Not Forget The Over 700 Pics Now!"

doesnt work (thankfully) in IE

and the pop ups work in all browsers, arrrgghhhh make them stop, so far I have 4 pop ups in Net 6, 1 from Net 4.7 (even thou the page doesnt show up) and 2 from IE

If you can't get it to work properly in NS, you probably shouldn't even bother trying to make it work in Dreamcast or Webtv. They have an even smaller market share than NS.

I agree with Webmistress - there doesn't seem to be anything in here that wouldn't work in NS 4.x Works fine in mozilla 0.9.5 by the way, which presumably means that it should work in NS 6.x as well.

I agree that you need a better logo, better colour scheme and a more coherent layout - it doesn't seem to be all that well put together. There also needs to be a better indication of what the site is about - celebrity photos? Make that clear.

One thing I really don't understand, and I've seen it on a lot of sites, is why you have a listing of all your behind the scenes problems. Do I care if your site isn't working in netscape? When I try to call it up in NS I just get a blank page, so anyone trying to use NS isn't getting that explanation - what's the point?

P.S. Why Are You Typing Everything In Title Case? It's Really Hard To Read Paragraphs Typed in This Case. I'm Very Tempted to Change Everything To Sentence Case.

I must say that when I read your bit about making a site using the latest technology and CSS I thought it would be a really fantastic site. Wrong! and it does look like hundreds of other sites out there and you have the audacity to say you've copyrighted the code!!

If this was someone's first attempt to make a site I'd say it was a good start but I really think you should be listening to what people are trying to say here and don't take things personally. There is nothing you are trying to do here that couldn't be cross browser compatible.

The colour scheme definitely needs work, same with the logo & graphics. Text is too small & hard to read and I really don't know what you are trying to do with the site, there is no natural flow to it.

I would have to say that you need to come up with a good colour scheme, think about the layout, get a decent logo and make it compatible for everyone.

Sounds like an admission of quilt. I would remove this. As a matter of fact I would either change the content in your updates box or remove it all together. Has your site been up long enough to get a accurate count of NS users? counter says 495 visitors. That is hardly enough to make this assumption. If you do have an accurate count then disregard this last comment.

a quick peek at your source code shows up a few errors, run your site thru netmechanic.com or w3c.org (html validaters) to check your coding errors.

Apart from the a:hover for the some links why cant you make this site suitable for Netscape? your not using anything fancy, your not using iframes etc, the CSS style iframe is not being used to its fullest and could just as well be a plain table, Netscape would render it as a plain table anyway. your using table border colors that dont show up in IE anyway. ok just checked, you dont even use the a:hover, you use SPAN style="color :#FFFFFF" onmouseover="this.style.color='#FF0000'" onmouseout="this.style.color='#FFFFFF'" if you use a:hover and add this to your .css file or add a style section in the head

OK this site is starting to really annoy me, I clicked on a link "this film was made by:", got pop ups popping pop ups, and the site was not found (http://dfiworld.tripod.com/) which just has a cgi bin, now have a roofing site trying to get me to use them as my homepage and cant get back, arrrggghhhhhhhhh
