I can't think of which design to have on webmasterdir.com! http://www.webmasterdir.com/preview or http://www.webmasters-network.com Thank you, please tell me which one you like better!

I like hte /preview one better too. Just watch your shades of blue - the one in the logo part doesn't look to be the same hue as the background. Also do something about the gradient, and the "Ultimate Webmaster Directory..." text - that's a little hard to read. As far as colours, blue and grey are a little boring, especially since your design isn't overly exciting. Maybe mix it up with some orange or something.

I really don't understand your categories here. You have Articles, Reviews, and then CGI Scripts... Why do you have special headings for CGI and Templates, but not for other, probably more useful things like Javascripts. Oh, okay, you're providing your own CGI's....

Honestly, the way you've got this set up, it doesn't seem all that useful to me. I would be more likely to use it if your categories went something like this: Tutorials, Free Scripts, Articles, Reviews, Graphics... As I said before about tila.com, if you want to attract loyal visitors with a directory site, you have to be thorough. Feel free to list your own CGI's and Templates at the top of their own categories, but if you're going to be a directory, concentrate on doing that part really well. With the sea of webmatering sites out there, I think it's better to do one thing really well (like have the best directory, or the best CGI's).

Edit: I read this over and realized that I didn't have anything good to say - which doesn't accurately reflect my feelings about this site. So, your navigation is really good. The basic design is nice and functional - those two things are very important for a directory site.

I prefer the first site. Much more interesting to look at than the second one.

I agree with everything Megan had to say. I just wanted to add, that in the category box in the middle, the text is kind of all jumbled together. I believe some things are headers. Make those bold or put more of a space between the different categories so it's more clear.

It's a nice clean layout, very well put together. But I agree that another color would jazz it up a bit.

Good job.

Wow! both of them looks great and I like the first one.

No, don't change to saturated color although it may be very striking at first impression, it becomes very irritating on the eyes after awhile.

Your color selection may look not so colorful at first impression, but it becomes very soothing to the eyes after some time. The idea is to keep visitors at your site to check out your contents instead of distracting their attention with irritating very black and red saturated colors.

Hope this helps.

I like the first one better. Although I would probably start out with fewer catagories to choose from and then have it branch out from there. Your catagories ran past the fold. Get more of your information at the top of the page. Overall a great looking site though. I liked the navigation that was there.
