CS-Impact
Hello,
First off let me say I enjoy this website's layout and overall good attitude to new members
I recently created a website for a friend. The website name is CS-Impact and is a gamming community for the popular online game 'Counter-Strike' and 'Counter-Strike: Source'. CS-Impact has it's own gaming servers and a small growing community. I have been creating website's for a few years now and this is the first site I've ever submitted to a critique like this.
So, enough talk right? Heres the link

Hi d00m. Sorry we haven't gotten around to reviewing your site yet! It droped down on the list with all the activity here today.
I have to say that this is not my style at all! Dark backgrounds, small text, and too big for my screen resolution. This sort of style seems to be popular with the gaming crowd though so for your audience will like it.
Since this is totally not my sort of site it's hard to give it a proper review. The white boxes with the ads in them need to be more in keeping with the rest of the site. That would probably glare too much in a dark room and get hard on the eyes. The whole bottom section is really jaggedy with strange bits of empty space that should be filled in or evened out somehow.

No problem on the wait Megan!
Yes this site was indeed designed for gamers! This is actually the first game site I've ever designed and I have to admit, It hurts my eyes a little too! I guess the gamers like it though! It does look best with Mozilla Fire Fox with a resolution of 1152x864. I have not yet taken steps to adjust it for other browsers and other resolutions but will hopefully get around to that soon.
Thanks for the review!

I was a guild member of a CS group composed of 15 pioneer members(I was one of the founders), spawned ten upstart guild in 10 regions... There was no WCG(world cyber games) that time, but we considered CS a sport, and we had joined every organized tournament in the local arena... That was in college, I stopped now, and every pioneer are all working nowadays...
I like the way you limited the site to alomst 2 colors, it works but not generally a universal style, megan is right that the design is good for your niche.
Althoug I feel youve done a good job for a first site, I think you need to reorganize the site layout, no problem for the colors, just divide things using dividers, and putting columns on different areas, it looks mismashed now that it induces a headache...
And one thing Ironic... I used the CS name doom too! and all my fans before were either named by numbers, (doom1, doom2) or named alternately (mood, mood1)... I loved CS, but at that time before it doesnt pay the bills...

I'm not really in to CS. It's more of a thing I do when Im bored. Actually, I've only played the DOS version of DOOM. The newer versions are too scary!
Yeah gaming sites can be hard. My friend requested manly colors, high-tech look, red, ect. I've tested the website with Firefox, Opera, and IE. Opera is the only one where the formatting gets a little messed up. I will have to work on that later.
Thanks for the reviews everyone.

Despite darkness i think it looks great for a gaming site.
Love the screenshots and the simple menus on either side as well.
I'd keep it as it is myself!

I think you've done pretty well on this, I just spent last couple of minutes playing with the layout (hiding and display the content via heading links) is like a game in itself (yeah I know I'm easily amused )
One thing I notice about these game sites is they never cater for people who don't play the game, only for those that do.

I am mostly against white letters against a dark background as they are hard to read but I think in this case is justified, also is easy on the eyes to have the banners at the bottom. I would not change anything, nice work.

I had my son look at your site since he is in the gameing stuff...he liked it alot.
I need the font bigger but he said gamers don't read they play...so I guess it is okay. I do like the gradient on the left nav menu...nice effect.

I have sort of an affection for dark colors. I'm just not a bright person --- Color wise that is. I think for the purpose of the site, it's great. I give it a 99,99999.

I love the red and black colour combination as it's very easy on the eyes. Few small problems I noticed:
- When you hover your mouse over the left and right hand sides of the menu the background rollover is red and you cannot see the red menu text. The reason this is actually a problem for me is because I get the link select mouse cursor when I hover next to the links, although you have to actually click the links to go anywhere.
- Those 3x2 thumbnails in the news push the right hand side of the layout out of line with the header and footer.
Apart from my nitpicking, you've got a very nice website going there. Keep up the great effort. And a link to e107.org somewhere couldn't hurt, could it?

The template is really nice, however it gets annoying after looking at it for more than 5 minutes. That extra red it has makes things worst, the red of the navigation menu does not look good either. Also you have to fix the search box (google) is not well formatted.

your site is very hard for me to read and stay with.... It's better up close -- but staring like that into a monitor isn't good for the eyes. It's probably attractive to your audience which nodoubtably is younger.

This site will definately appeal to younger surfers.
The graphics/sceenshots are great and naviagtion very good.
Pages load fast and the style is modern and has that wow factor.
However I have to agree with others here that the text needs to be larger. Also are you selling ad space in your right hand column? If so a link to a 'price etc' page could be benificial.
