Hey,

I recently took the time to program my own forum(in perl for those wanting to know) and i just wanted to know how ppl thought the layout was. Http://etow.virtualave.net/cgi-bin/forum.cgi It is not totally finished yet, also you dont need to register or login, just post and browse around on it. Also if you run into any bugs plz tell me Smiling

PS Yes my site is hosted on virtualave, plz bare with the pop ups and just minimize them or something.

Hello and welcome to TWF. We usually ask that people review 3 other sites before asking for a review of their own site so once you do that I'm sure people will be happy to post some comments about your forums.

The page doesn't load entirely in NS. Run it through a validator and look for missed table tags and the like... NS is very fussy about them.

Looks like pants in IE. Sorry, but there's no design to critique. No logo, no graphics, just a box.

I can't really comment on your programming skills (didn't take the forum for a test ride) but you need to do something to add some visual appeal.

It just looks like crap, sorry.

To be fair, I think the poster is looking more for a critique of his script and how it works rather than the design. It seems to work well for me, but it's pretty basic. Many more features to add in.

Your page doesn't look like "crap". It just looks unfinished and I think you know it still needs a lot of work.

Here is some constructive criticism. The headers on your table are blue and the text is black. That makes it tough to read. The background and the table might need a little more contrast. And, I agree with the others you need some graphics/logos.

On a positive note, I went through the motions and the layout held up in IE 5.5 JLV @ 1024 but it sounds like you have some netscape issues.

It worked fine for me in NS 6 as far as I could tell.

It's too flat. Try adding some more visual effects to it to give it more depth and maybe some more color.

Thanks all. I was aiming more for a script critque more than the looks, but that is also important. Once i get the administrative area finished i will experiment with the colors and the overall looks that the admin can control. And as for graphics, i have mspaint and that is it! So if i did make graphics they would look like crap and if i had a nice program they still would because art is just something i have never been good at.

Well thanks for the suggestions as for the netscape issues, does anybody know of a list of things that do/dont work on that browser so i can make the forum as compatible with both browsers as possible(i looked through my code and i was missing some < /tr >).

Thanks again Smiling

Hi, I snooped threw your forums, and everything worked fine on my computer. Maybe you can add some new features? Do you have anything planned? Good job on the programing so far.!
