Critique Appreciated
Hello all,
I've got another site I've been working on, I'd really appreciate any feedback you might have.
The link is http://www.unislumin.com/default_new.asp
Some links take you back to the old site since I'm not finished yet.
Let me know what you think
Thanks,
PJ

looks fine apart from the image above the pic of all the people standing around. It might be my browser (probably is) but when it changes to a new frame it quickly goes grey in the background and it looks very strange.

Minton,
What browser are you using?
That fade effect is achieved by using a built in filter of IE4 and up. Netscape should just go through the images without any fade effect. If I used an animated gif to get the same effect the file size would be huge!

Lose the Alt text on the navigation menu - ALT pop-up covers up the dHTML pop-up making it impossible to read that.
That text fade in thing makes absolutely no sense to me - the words, that is. What is "managed services" supposed to mean? Helping clients expand their possibilities? Would people who need help with technological business solutions understand this stuff? It just seems so ambiguous to me!
What does Unis Lumin mean anyway? With a name like that it would be a good idea to include an explanation somewhere.
Really nice design though - very well done!

Megs,
Thanks for the ALT suggestion - made sense.
As for the rest, the phrases on the start page were meant to be somewhat vague. All our competition gets really specific and puts an e in front of everything (e-commerce, e-business, e-networks, blah blah)so we wanted to be different.
The marketing people figured most of the browsers of the site would be IT people so the phrases were ok.
The name UNIS LUMIN I'm not sure about, I think it's Greek for One Light or something, any Greek Webheads out there wish to enlighten me?
Thanks for the comments,
PJ

PJ, I went back to your site after a reboot and the top image is still very strange. Itstead of fading it just goes gray and the text goes a strange colour.
By the way, I am using IE4

I like it! Nice and clean. I don't like the drop down menus too much though, they are - eh - blah...
Your logo is also pretty blah...
But overall I really like it!

Thanks for the comments everyone.
Justin:
I know the site is a little plain but it's a corporate site and you have to stay a little conservative. Anyways I made you say blah
I'm going live with the site now so that link won't work anymore, just go to www.unislumin.com to see it.

Malte: the address is now just http://www.unislumin.com/
PJ: I didn't mean the whole site is plain, I just meant that the drop down menu's were blah, compared to ones I have seen.

I like the site?
Did you pay somebody to make that logo? Looks a little boring.
Did you pay IBM to use the word e-business? Its trademarked. e-commerce is the free general term.

Justin,
I tried using semi-transparent gifs for the menus and it looked cool but sometimes the menus were hard to read depending on what was behind them. I also tried moving menus but that meant I had to have 2 different scripts, one for IE and one for Netscape, I didn't want that. The script I have serves both browsers.
Malte,
That logo was here when I started. I'm not to crazy about it either but you don't insult your boss when you've only been working here 3 weeks
I didn't know that IBM had trademarked the word e-business. Do you have to pay them or can you just say copyright IBM at the bottom of the page? I guess I'll have to talk to someone in the legal area. Thanks for the heads up!
