I've done a complete redesign on my site.

Is it better now?

I actually liked the old one better, if I remember right. I don't like the three different shades of yellow - the two pale ones at the top clash with the bright one on the side.

On the front page, you've got the same navigation menu on there twice. Maybe you could try replacing the left side one with all your miscellaneous junk (newsletter sign-up, small ads).

Another option would be to keep the navigation on the left (increase the font size though - that's a little too small), put some "what's new" content in the middle, and create another box for all that miscellaneous junk (that part really needs to be organized better). Also move your text away from the edge a little.

Okay, on to the other pages. Lose that greeny-dark yellow at the bottom. You've also got two or three (incompatible) shades of green on here - use one.

Overall, two many different colours are used (that don't match). The site needs to be streamlined a bit more - cutting down on the number of colours would help a lot. (have you tried changing your links from blue? That might look good).

On the Ad Space page, (and there may be others like that), you should get rid of all that useless white space for now.

Oh boy - Netscape problem! Some of the black borders aren't showing up in netscape 4.6 (or Mozilla).

I'm noticing a couple of important sections you should have on here - for Scripts you should definitely have JavaScript on there. It would probably be a good idea to put in a section for good tutorials and articles on different technologies.

Are you using some sort of a code compressor? How in the heck to you edit that ?!?

Uh - I definantly like the old one better. Here is why:

To start, you took the "more colors" thing way to extreme. Now I'm going to say "less colors" and ones that go together. Green and yellow just don't go.

The next point has to do with your HTML: why is it soooo messy? How can you edit that? Oh well- I guess you can. Your meta tags arn't too good either, they have a lot of crap in them

Next is graphics: you need some. You have no logo, which you definantly need, ever if you have to pay someone for one. Sure the site loads fast, but it would look nicer with some graphics.

Finally: you need to think about your content. Ask yourself this question: why would someone want to use your site over Altavista or Yahoo? If you don't have an answer then I think you need to re-think what you want your site to do.

Overall your site needs some work.

I've corrected the problems. Please tell me if there are any more of them.

Thanks,
Jack

Looks pretty good. Just don't like how
Goodbookmarks.com is in Italics. The slogan below it should be in italics but not Goodbookmarks.com. Also the links to the sections below the Goodbookmarks.com should be centered in the table.
The linkbox thing is kinda random.
Also maybe you shoudl put your world 1000 under the left navigation system. It would make it so the page isn't as long.

I think he means the Hitbox counter. I like the colors better, but you still need a logo and more solid content. It's comin' along though!

A litte better. That yellow colour makes me think of C|Net, but whatever... the orange at the top should be a little darker to contrast with the yellow better.

Most of my comments above still stand - the two navigation menus, text too close to the edge, organization of "miscelaneous junk", useless white space, don't like the green, need more content...

That check mark at the top needs to be fixed - the edges are too jagged. You also need a site title at the top of every page and/or a logo.

I don't know.. I think this one has potential, but right now I liked the old one better. You DEFINITELY need a logo of some sort... The blue on orange links are not that easy to read, either. Looks kind of like you're going for a look similar to devshed.com now... so you might want to consider doing some of the things they are doing, such as using a background color, better colors, etc.

Changed the colors. I'll add the logo 1 or 2 days later.

How's the color now?

Yep- looks like your going for the look of DevShed or 32Bit. That's not bad, 'cause I'm actually using a design similar to it. Anyway...

The colors are officially aweful. They make me want to puke Smiling Sorry for that illustration, but it's true. Also- your site looks empty because either you don't have a background color or/and you don't have a color for the main cell. One of the two needs to be changed.

Finally- your Joke of The Day and Newsletter part of your site still doesn't look right. Oh yeah, and what about some type of CSS link color change? That would look good.

Ugh!! Way, way, way worse!!! That is just not a good choice of colour. You're getting the idea though - at least those three shades of 70's olive green go together. Ugh!! That's what it makes me think of! Olives! I hate olives!

Color changed. Is it better now?

If it isn't, please give me some suggestions on what colors to use.

Getting a little bit better... but I don't know about the brown. When I try to think of colors, I usually look at professional football team colors. Suprisingly enough, they are actually very useful both for getting some time away from the computer and for having good colors that go together for designing

I don't like that brown either, but it's your page so whatever... I really like the idea about using colours from sports uniforms - that's a good one.

I don't think the default blue links go with what you've got there either, and the title gif at the top doesn't look too good.

Megs: in your last post you not only dissed his page, but olives in the process I love olives!

Color is getting there, but browns are not a good choice. Your logo doesn't look right either, what happened to it?

I see that you did away with the Joke border, but it still looks un-organized in that section.

jackchen: you don't ALWAYS have to follow what we say needs to be changed, because then you'd probably be changing it every few days

Uhg- I don't know what to do about the colors, but they are getting better. The logo, though, is far from done. I don't like it at all. It's too small. And why the heck do you have bricks as the G?

I would move a few things around also. The first thing I see when I enter the page is a banner; not good. I would move the banner to where your logo is now, and then make your logo nice and big in the red space.

    Not sure.
I know I don't like the brick logo either. Also I think you should move the banner to the bottom or something. I like how the colors are flat.
All for now. I might have more later.

Well, I guess we could keep telling you OUR preferences for months.

Two points - one minor and one major.

Minor point. If the logo was used at the table background, then the top menu links could be right-aligned at the top of the same table. This would save space on the page and reveal more content on arrival. Done properly, it would hardly affect the look of the page.

Major visual problem. Try viewing the site using largest and smallest text sizes available through your browser. The main table 'border' no longer fits the table. You can probably fix that one by using extra columns and rows in the table and filling them with your border colour.

Argh! The current design sucks! I'll think of a new one, then I come back again. Smiling

I actually don't think what is up now is all that bad compared to what you had before. These colors are a little bright though.
