Comments/Advice Sought... DirrtyMedia.com
Hey Everyone,
Okay, so this is my first serious venture into the online world outside of myspace and other well known 'all about me' blog spots.
I am in the process of developing my media company, called DirrtyMedia. We are pushing to develop our upcoming fashion label, an online tv series alongside an online store and an active forums space.
The central location for this is http://www.dirrtymedia.com and I would love to hear of what you think of where we are headed so far. If it seems tad empty in some parts, keep in mind we havent promoted it just yet for people to visit.
What do you like? What can't you stand? If the home page was YOUR home page, what would you want on it?
All of this is 'a work in progress', and will be launching sometime mid this year.
Any comments most appreciated,
Thanks,
Trashage.

First up I'm confronted with flash plugin error (I dont have the plugin) and a horziontal scroll at 800x600 because of the banner and plugin spot - the content doesn't expand to full width thou.
You need to change your link colours, across the top you have text colour links, on the side (left) you have text and heading colour links, red is the heading colour but they are not clickable, the black headings above the sections are same colour as top links but aren't clickable so is really confusing whats a click and whats not. You also have 'comingsoon' on the right hand side the same colour as the links on the left but it's not a link.
Although it's a rouge, grunge type site I don't think the layout colours do it justice, blacks and greys can work well together but you need more tones of them.
There is a mention of it being Australian based on about page but other mentions are just Melbourne, Melbourne could be anywhere and probably is everywhere around the world, maybe add AU after or something like Melbourne this will show a dotted line under the word and gives a tool tip (the title value) on mouse over.
Maybe I'm getting old but to be honest I dont get what the site is about
The 'make us your homepage' and google search should not be top center, if people do use the index for teh homepage that is what they see everytime the page loads and will soon tire of it.
If people want to bookmark it they will, If they want to make it their homepage they will. I come to this site many hours a week but isn't my homepage, my homepage is aboutblank (nothing). If I have been to your site before I would know where things are so the search isn't important, the content is

Heya,
Yeh some fair calls, but as with usual critiques it is totally neccessary for me to jump in and comment to get readers a step ahead.
So... Initially, thanks for checking us out... Sorry about the gaps tho!
Our key audience is not 'grunge' (its the total opposite - electro music - google it in my site!) and perhaps this is where age shows. We have a focus audience between 18 and 30. Our audience prefers minimal approaches to information, with strategic placement of key concepts right there in their faces.
This site draws on the global/local focus on web direction. It says, 'Hey, we have a central point - we call it Melbourne - but for you Melbourne just exists right here on your screen." Online you don't always need to be so abrupt with locality unless you actually want people there. When we do want people there, we will specify it. Are you familar with MySpace.com's event postings? They take an almost identical approach. Know me - Know where I'm from - Then draw you locality conclusions.
I appreciate wholly your mention of how to tag tho, because html coding is all very very new for me.
DirrtyMedia is a central location for independent media sources to meet. We will introduce a very simple intro page seperate to the index page soon, and we will also move the google bar away to the side, and that whole mid section will be a constant blog-ish daily fed area. Sites that mirror what we decided to approach include http://www.chicksonspeed.com or
http://www.misskittin.com
Knowing all this new info now, people PLEASE continue on... I love knowing where my site sits amongst so many experienced webheads!
Keep rockin'!

For the record I'm not that much older than 30
grunge I guess could be seen in several ways, probably different around the world. I was thinking punk, thrash, techno, rave, deviant ...
The reason location can be important is words, grammer, actions and even pictures can mean different things around the world, example, 2 fingers up (not the peace sign), not everyone knows thats a friendier version of the single finger, saying bloody hell is swearing in some parts. then all the slang words. You mention eskie, jandel, ute, shelia and you've confused over half the worlds population. If you had a location and someone was really concerned about it they could possibly look up your slang and find out what you meant.
I'm not familar with MySpace.com's event postings, I'm a long haired, tatooted male nerd
