Comments or suggestions?
Hi everybody, I just wanted to get opinions on a site I am designing at http://www.infostardesign.com/scubabeyond/
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Brian

Not bad!
1) There are too many different fonts on the page. Limit it to one or two.
2) There are also too many menu's. Why not move the menu on the little top bar and make those tabs? Also- the tabs are messed up (IE: not lined up, etc..).
3) The image flips are good, but how about pre-loading the images?
4) Make the specials box the same as the product search box.
Overall I like it!

Actually there are only 2 fonts being used- arial and eurostile.
**

Not lined up? I'm not sure I understand what you're saying.. The main page one isn't lined up because it is meant to stand out (because that's the page the user is on, if that's what you mean
I'll consider making the menu items into individual tabs- I just wasn't sure they were major enough areas of the site to warrent their own tab.
**

**
I'm pretty sure they are preloaded... are they not?
**
4) Make the specials box the same as the product search box.
**
I think I agree with you on this point.
**
Thanks,
Brian

Viewed with IE5.
Not too sure about the table width of 760 - could lead to the awful horizontal scroll for those who only have 640 monitors
Two tiny suggestions: if you uncheck 'Anti-alias' for the very small word images, they will be much crisper. Verdana at 11 pixels works well for me.
and the LH menu seems visually unbalanced. You might want to make every option 2 lines of text instead of some one line, others two lines.

WOW!!!
That is one of the best sites I have ever seen!
Like he said Preload the images. I didn't notice them because I didn't know it was loading.
There are to many menu's. Keep the tabs and the part on the left. On the tabs menu it looks pretty sloppy compared to the rest. Fix those up and it will look real good. Looks like you put the tabs together in 10 minutes.
I love your logo. I like everything else too. Great site! Keep up the good work.

Well, I see more than two fonts. There is the font for the logo, the left menu, the ad/text and main page are arial -- that's three.
The font used for the left menu is really hard to read (eurostyle I think), made worse by the Capitalizing Of Each Word In The Link.
If the left menu was the same font as under the Scuba in the logo, I think it would integrate much better, and think up shorter link names. However I think the left menu doesn't belong there (at least the contents don't).
Basically whoever said there is too much navigation is right. You need to streamline a little more. Having the 'view cart' on the first page is odd -- that should only be accessible once you start shopping (the only time you need to 'view cart'), and ditto the 'main page' link which should be the logo and/or the home button, anyway, and a text link at the bottom of every page. What's left is catalogue, where the left menu should be *only* as you will provide information for each item, a price and an order button, correct?
The home | info | liability | contact series can move out of there -- what would 'info' be, anyway? If you keep it, kill the info or rename it for what it is (ordering information?) and add 'buy' or 'order' or 'catalogue' or what not up there. The left menu could be different sections like on the sport itself, other online affiliated sites, store locations (if applicable) one for the catalogue/shopping cart, that sort of thing.

Suzanne

I have to agree about the navigation. It seems like there are just way to many different navigation bars. I’d personally combing the gray tabs and the top navigation, either by putting all the links along the top or by making smaller tabs.
On my screen I see a bank white space beyond the “contact us” image.
I agree about the fonts also, however I do not think it’s really a font issue. The “Easily Buy Scuba equipment Online” and the logo clash in my opinion. It’s not a huge deal, just a personal preference, but I’d remove that caption all together and just make the image very bold. Let the logo make its point.
All in all the site looks great. Good luck with it!

Ok, I see your point... Maybe I should just ditch the tabs all together. What do you think? Then, I could keep the left nav and the catalogue would be accessible from there. I wish the names were shorter also, unfortunately the client I'm doing this for wants all that text on there .
Also, I do know about the scrolling at 640x480, but we decided to design this site for 800x600 as that's what the client wanted and also what most of the people on the net use.
I'll contact the client and see if they can come up with any shorter descriptions for the left-hand menu items...

I think the font problem is mostly related to the different font faces, styles and sizes more than simply the faces.

Hmm- I would use tabs and get rid of the navigation menu on the little top bar. I think the tabs look better, but they need to be cleaned up.
The graphics arn't pre-loaded for me in IE5.

I like the tab idea. Like Justin said. Keep the tabs. Move the stuff from the top navigation to the side. The tabs are neat they just need to be cleaned up a bit.

On the right you have the inconsistency of one rounded table and one square one...

Brian,
In my completely unprofessional opinion...Wow. I really liked it. I do agree with most of what has been said before, but if you can take care of those few things, you'll really have an excellent site.

WOW! Amazing job! It is great! There are a little to much fonts on the page though, I like the logo! The sidebar buttons are copied from the UBB site, but WOW! I love it, keep up the good work!

Hello,
Pretty good site, im looking at school on Netscape 3 i think, and it looks fine, I believe your using dreamweaver 3, right? That says its going to preload images but it doesn't. Also make margins around your page equal Zero. Good site.

Hi, yes I am using dreamweaver 3... Not sure exactly why it isn't pre-loading the images, I'll have to check that out. However, regarding Netscape 3, it does not support 0 margins (to my knowledge)... However it is set to be at zero margin in any other version that supports it.
