Any comments would be appreciated on the following new design for my company's Website: http://www.unislumin.com/new_version

No pages work, only the home page. I'm particularly interested in the following:

1) Is it to plain?
2) Is the Flash needed?
3) Does the navigation waste to much space?

Thanks, and happy holidays (for those that don't have to work Sad )

I like the way the music turns off by itself - good idea! You should try to set it up so that it doesn't play again when the visitor refreshes that page for whatever reason

Now, I do think that the content frame is too small. I'm getting a horiztonal scroll bar in that one (my monitor does weird things on me sometimes though) at 800 x 600. Both the top bar and the side bar are too big - if someone's got maximum browser chrome showing there's only going to be about 1/4 of the page available for content! Maybe that flashed area could be more of a horizontal banner shape to the left of the logo - that would allow you to get rid of all that extra dark blue space above the navigation and move the content area up.

Oh, I didn't realize that the dark blue space is menus. It seems weird to me to have the menus go up instead of down. I also think that having that left side frame on every page is pretty pointless. That information could lead off your home page instead.

Tried it in Netscape - did you use a browser redirect or something here? I see no frames in netscape and frankly, I like it better without them. The content doesn't seem like it's squished into a corner.

The logo - seems to small and not prominent enough I think. Otherwise the design looks really good - insteresting layout concept!

I think I've told you before what I think of your catch phrase thingy, so I won't go there today.

Megan,

Thanks for your comments.

Good idea about the music, I'm not sure if music is going to be in the final version or not, but if it is this would be a good thing to implement.

Regarding navigation/space issues, I guess I'm torn (jeez, that really hurts!), on one hand you want a site that is very user friendly and intuitive, but on the other you want one that is still fresh and cool, it can be hard to combine the two.

When you viewed the page with Netscape you got the version that doesn't use Iframes, that's why there were no scrollbars.

The logo & catchphrase are out of my control so there isn't much I can do there.

Thanks again for the comments.

Didn't work for me in netscape. Received this message:
Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0005'

Invalid procedure call or argument: 'Mid'

//global.asa, line 42

Worked in explorer. I don't think it looks to plain. The bottom right frame seems rather awkward.

Boblo,

What version of Netscape were you using? Did you have cookies turned off?

I haven't tested with Netscape 6 yet since it keeps crashing when I try to install it...

One thing I can't stand is pages that reload to adjust when you resize the window, its really annoying. I like the contact us, search and well contact us again button, they look cool, but they should perhaps have a rollover. I know they are linked and you might have that in mind already.

Other than that, it looks pretty clean and the flash thing is nice. The menus font might be too small which makes the text not too clear.

I liked the site. The whitespace above the menu might be made a touch smaller to give more room to the content. Also the lightest blue text is kind of hard to read on an lcd screen.

Nice job

Moc,

Unfortunately the reload on resize is necessary when using DHTML and Netscape, I haven't set it up so it doesn't reload with IE yet.

Thanks for the comments, I'm going to be doing some technical work so if the page doesn't load or you get some script errors, this is the reason.

I agree with all of the comments that were made. I think that there are just a few minor things that could be adjusted, but the site has a good look. I would consider, however, adding a different color. I just looks a little flat.
