cigarette-calculator.com - help appreciated
Hello,
I've just translated - or to be honest: a friend of mine translated it - a page of me into english (from german).
It's http://cigarette-calculator.com/
So, if you find any mistakes etc. please tell me.
Also I need to know the actual price of cigarettes in different countries - especially UK and USA?!
What do you think about the idea? Is the english-translation good or does it sound bad to you?
Any help, critique, idea appreciated.
Thank you
Andreas

THis look good. The visual design is good. You are right to suspect that the English might be a little strange. The first line - "So you're a smoker and like to drag on a cigarette?" seems odd to me. It's not that the grammar s wrong or anything, just that we wouldn't say something like "like to drag on a cigarette." You also have "When did you start somking?" (smoking, not somking!)
The other problem I have with this is that it doesn't say what kind of information the calculator is going to give you. It just says "the calculator will display some information" - what information??

'drag' is an old fashion term, puff would be more up to date.
What is the purpose of the site? is it just useless information (of which some is not correct) or is it a anti smoking type site?
It's fine as a time waster but if you want sme credibitlity with it you should get someone like the (dear I say it) anti-smoking lobby groups behind you for better statics (which they make up anyway). Or go the other way and get sponsorship from a cigarette company, displaying their brand on the cigs and packet etc.
I'd like to meet anyone that can remember the day/month they started smoking. I started smoking when I was 13, from that I can work out the year (83) but have no idea what day/month it was. Also when you start smoking you don't usually buy your own, you smoke other peoples until you get addicted and then buy your own, at which stage you are usually smoking properly (taking it down instead of puffing on it like a cigar).
Your calculator says I have shortened my life by 11 years, average life span for male is 77 years, so if I make it over 66 years I'll come knocking at your door
Says I've wasted x amount of hours yet I smoke while I work.
Says I've sucked in x amount of tar, tar is nothing, my body has sucked up way worse in the many years of working in automotive industry. The human body is an amazing thing, it can adapt to situations.

This is an interesting website
I am not a smoker myself but it's a very informative website. Something I will recommend in my blog

I think you have to make it more clearly what your calculator does in the from page. Maybe try to reduce the size of the fonts or maybe redesign the header.

It's a great calculator! I like the website.
Very attractive, and easy to use.
I'd definitely come back to your website and check it out (mabey show a few people I know who smoke)
One thing I noticed was that when I read the report your website gave me I felt like I should quit smoking... Then I looked down at your google ads and all I saw were advertisments for wholesale cigarettes.
Mabey it's just me...
I'm more informed now that I've checked out your website, great job! An asset to the internet!
