Anyone like pink?!

Hi Folks

If you've got a minute, I'd be great if you could check out:

http://alpha.angleseyromance.com/

It's a site that I'm putting together that is actually going live tomorrow (don't expect any buttons you click to actually work!).

Just wondering more about the colour. I don't like it personally, I think it's way too much and too heavy, but I am a minimilistic sort of guy. The client likes it, which is what matters I guess.

How does the colour look on a smaller monitor? Does it drown out - and the flash must be too slow to laod?

Yuck.

I've no problem with the colour in general (heck, I use pink on my own site!)

Unfortunately, you haven't used a browser-safe shade so I can see "boxy delineations" around your graphics.

Other than that and the fact that I have no freakin' idea what the site is about, it looks ok.

Man, am I ever feeling curmudgeonly today!

It's not that pink, more purple I would say. It is also not a websafe color either so it might look different in some browsers. If you have an intro to your site, you need a skip intro feature. The load time on my cable connection was still kind of slow. Not everyone wants to wait while the page loads. I didn't think that the standard blue underlined hyperlinks went well with the color either. The background color looks better at lower resolutions. At larger resolutions the background color became a little overpowering. I assume that you know that your links aren't working.

I actually like the colour, nice to see a different colour used for a site. It is a wee bit sickly at larger resolutions though just 'cos there is so much of it Wink. I personally don't like the fonts you have used for the graphical elements though as I find them hard to read (just a personal note)

I like the layout using the different "windows" that hold various content (Latest Offers, News, etc) but I really do not think that the font you're using for the title of those windows (which you're also using for the menu to the right) fits in with the rest of your site. The heavy black border just seems too foreign to the rest of the concepts you're trying to convey...

All I see is a big pinky-purple background in Opera 6. Nice colour though Smiling

Oh, wait, that's probably because I have plug-ins turned off. Might want to add some sort of direct link to the site.

Turned on the plug-ins and it's working fine. Actually, I would probably just lose that intro - it's not really that impressive IMHO. The colour seems suitable to the topic, but I'm not getting a very islandy impression here. What's with the maggots?

Maggots; just some filler-text Wink

flash loaded semi ok on 56k must have skip button thou.
first i thought it was an old couples personal site then some text flashed at me then disappeared, have no idea what it said,
maggots, hmm these arent cheap lol (you've said its just filler)
Like the splash page, i am seeing different shades of color on your main page as well, mainly around the banner image which is very pixelalated (jaggied - to compressed)

the pink line under the banner is black in Netscape (4.7 & 6), same as the bottom line

What a great shade of purple! Smiling

*LOL* I'm chucklin' about using maggots as filler text, especially when the site is so feminine and about love.

Yeah, I'm taking the Flash off. I was just fiddling about with the Macs I have lying around here. I'll change the BG color of the text graphics to transparent and that should fix the problem of different shading.

Well, no, it's still there, it's just lighter and much less intrusive. Looks pretty good. Would still like to see some imagery to get the point across a little better though (Anglesey Island of Romance - what? Where?)

hmmm. I think I liked it better before - or more precisely, some sort of middle ground. It looks a little pale and plain now, imo

Images need to be added. Just working some copyright and usage issues with a few photographers.

I can't believe everyone liked the other one better? Sad. I think I looked at the site too much and went sick of the pink. After flicking through five or six pages of pink it doesn't become fun. Maybe I'll make the front intro page pink and the rest white. After all, I do really need them to use the information presented and I want them to be able to find information fast.

Ah well, back to the drawing board. Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Wil,

I think if you could find a middle ground between the pink and white one it would be great. To me the pink one was a bit much and the white one is too plain. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

> Shouldn't it be Angelesy, Island of Romance?

Don't know. I get the text from the PR team. And there are three or four of them, so I ain't going to start arguing with them Wink

Hi All

Made significant changes to the site - and got rid of the pink! Smiling

It would be appreciated if you could take a peek. I really want more usability feedback as aposed to design, but I am open to everything you can throw at me!

Thanks!

looking good
the links at the left look a little odd, maybe its the font, maybe blurred a lil, just dosnt quite look right, could be the jagged edges, or the bold line around it except on the bottom.

you have a broken link "nature" on the "about Anglesey" page
the heritage page could do with a link back to the top, how bout making the down arrows up arrows with links to the top?

I think it looks good except for the buttons. Need to work on those a bit.
Forgive me for playing but I couldn't resist. This is what I would do. BUTTON SCREEN SHOT HERE

Other than that I think it looks really nice.

I think the bottom one/ones here on screen shot look good. The ones you have on the site Wil look very jaggedy and do spoil the overall look.

Sorry you feel yucky. Definately know the feeling. We have been passing the flu back and forth in my house for 3 weeks now. Have some chicken soup. That will make it all better. Wink

Will,

Look really nice! The only beef I can come up with really is the link colours. The default blue doesn't work for me. Heck, default blue never works for me Smiling

Not sure what I would try in place - a dark blue or dark red perhaps?

Nice job!

Thanks for the feedback guys!

And a big thank you for the buttons!!!! Can I use those, preety please?! Smiling

The About pages look yucky as I've just thrown in content. I really need to work on that to make ti more usable, not sure how to yet, though.

I've tried changing the link colours before, but never really came up with a good colour. Maybe a shade of the pink/purple in the graphic? I'll see what I can come up with.

Cheers

Yes you can use them. Laughing out loud Do you need ones for the intro with the purple background? If so let me know. Won't take but a second to whip one up.

Glad I could help.Wink
