I personally don't like the colours. Not a big fan of black backgrounds and to honest I found the site too dark and it made watching the video clips hard on the eyes. I also don't like the text bold & italic, far too hard to read.
Everything worked though but then I was looking at it in IE5 with a adsl connection.
Julia - if life was meant to be easy Michael Angelo would have painted the floor....
In NS 6 the videos and left side text aren't showing up at all.
Why does your title say "U2 Seek ing Page?" YOu should pick something that makes a little more sense. At first I wasn't too clear about what exactly you were offering here.
THe videos should really be moved to a more central location on the page - it really would be better if the video was centered on the screen. Your text needs to be better organized as well - I wasn't expecting the section on the right to be a band history until I started reading it, and I wasn't sure what the prev/next buttons would send me to (and those buttons do need to be re-worked. The blue is too hard to read against the black).
re: the band history - did you write that yourself? it seems to be pretty extensive - might want to put more emphasis on that and maybe include some photos if you can.
Overall, the design isn't bad, but I do think that it could use some re-organizing. It also seems to be sort of crammed against the left edge of my screen - running at 1132 right now
Interesting about NS6.
I havent been able to install it on this PC - I always get an exe error on installation so I was going to try it again on my new config this month.
As for the black - personally I'm a bit partial to the black backgrounds....but your comments are appreciated.
As for design, wasnt too fussed about it, just set the site up to see if I could get my hide/show scripts happening in both NS4and IE5 to start with. Based on that I would have thought NS6 would have been fine...all these browser compatabilities are a bugger.....just when you think you can get away with NS4/IE5 compatability, you find out there are backwards compatability issues. Might have something to do with the Layer tag and references in the scripting.
Looks like I'll have to get Win2KPro and NS6 up and running asap.
Well, I really don't think there are too many people using NS 6 so you probably don't have to worry too much about it. I just installed it at work to see what it was like and I liked it so I kept using it. It actually runs fine for me - I've heard a lot of people have had problems installing or running it, but I've also heard that the latest nightly mozilla builds are much better than NS 6.
I hate to say it, but your site doesn't work in NS 4 or IE 4 for me, either. There's horrid overlap of text blocks. Layers?
So you've built a site that apparently only works in IE 5+. I guess that's all fine and dandy if you don't care about visitors with other/older browsers, since someone else has already said it doesn't work in NS 6 either.
And this isn't a design issue, but since you have a "fan" site I can't help but consider copyright. The acceptable use policy at your host would indicate you are violating their terms of service by posting copyrighted material on your site. I used to be very involved in the music industry, and yes, the RIAA, so my first impression is that your site violates copyright law and puts you in jeopardy of legal repercussions.
No, I'm not a lawyer. But the terms of service at your host do not allow you to post copyrighted material without permission. Or perhaps you do have permission and have posted a statement to that effect but I just can't see it because of those overlapping text blocks in my browser?
The first thing I noticed (surprisingly) were the Prev. and Next buttons. They don't look too great on black, and clash with the colors.
Also, you are using javascript to spit out the information. The problem with this is that the the browsers (even though these are rare) that don't support javascript, or have it turned off, won't be able to navigate your site. You might want to consider this.
Hope this isn't too much discouragement.. just try to fix those first
Maybe I was being a little too adventuristic to put it all into layers etc...given the probs in NS6...still cant get it to boot on my PC.
Must admit I designed it at 1280x1024 (my screen res) so sorry about the scrollers....
Thanks again for all your comments.
